Job Purpose and Organizational Context

The internship is intended to support the UNDP Lesotho Country Office and the two other implementing agencies in forging enabling partnerships with the Project stakeholders, which is essential in peacebuilding initiatives and strengthening capacity in community policing. The intern will be responsible for maintaining effective communication among different stakeholders of the Project, coordinating and documenting activities’ milestones.
The intern will work closely with the Project Manager, Governance Specialist, Project Analyst and Project Management Team to achieve these objectives.
Duties and responsibilities
The intern will be responsible for assisting with the following tasks:
Assit Support peacebuilding activities
• Support the development of National and multisectoral District Plan based on Women and Youth Peace and Security modelled on UNSCR 1325 and 2250.
• Assist in setting up women groups leading in districts dialogues, conflict prevention and management and promotion of peace.
• Assess the efficacy of the methods and strategies used to carryout trauma healing and psychosocial support to victims of violence especially women and youth.
• Conduct research on policy advisory and design of a policy framework for the establishment of the gender-sensitive and youth inclusive community conflict resolution and the strategic negotiation mechanisms.
Assist in strengthening the Capacity of Community Policing
• Provide a research-based support on Community Policing Unit mandate, structures that are gender-responsive, and human rights-centered
• Support sustenance of the capacity of insider mediators, dialogue facilitators and negotiators, who include women and youth, within communities to improve local level violence prevention and peace building processes
• Support the production of communication materials, such as newsletters, reports, and brochures.
• Assist in organizing and promoting communication campaigns and events.
• Provide logistical and administrative support for communication activities.
Qualifications
Enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher) OR recently graduated with a first university degree (bachelor's or equivalent), in Governance, Peace and Security, Development Studies, Political Science, Sociology, Public Policy, Law, Human Rights, or related Social Science discipline is required and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation;
Experience:
No professional work experience is required for applicants to the UNDP Internship Programme. However, applicants should have a field of study closely related to the type of internship they are applying for.
• Strong interest in peacebuilding and empowering communities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Experience with social media and digital communication platforms is an asset.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Fluency in English and Sesotho is required.
• Research output, like presentation in a conference, published article in a peer reviewed journal, or chapter in a book will be an added advantage

Conditions
• The internship will be given a stipend.
• The intern must be available for the full duration of the internship (6 months).
• The intern will be based at the UNDP Country Office in Lesotho and will work under the supervision of Governance Specialist and Project Analyst.
