Expected duration6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe United Nations General Assembly resolution 71/251 established the Technology Bank for the Least Developed Countries (UNTBLDC) and adopted its Charter on 23 December 2016. The objectives of UNTBLDC are: (a) To strengthen the science, technology and innovation capacity of least developed countries, including the capacity to identify, absorb, develop, integrate and scale up the deployment of technologies and innovations, including indigenous ones, as well as the capacity to address and manage intellectual property rights issues; (b) To promote the development and implementation of national and regional science, technology and innovation strategies; (c) To strengthen partnerships among science, technology and innovation-related public entities and with the private sector; (d) To promote cooperation among all stakeholders involved in science, technology and innovation, including researchers, research institutions and public and private sector entities, within and between least developed countries, as well as with their counterparts in other countries; (e) To promote and facilitate the identification and utilization of and access to appropriate technologies by the least developed countries, as well as their transfer to the least developed countries, while respecting intellectual property rights and fostering the national and regional capacity of the least developed countries for the effective utilization of technology in order to bring about transformative change. The Doha Programme of Action for LDCs for the decade 2021-2030, endorsed by the General Assembly in March 2022, has also reinforced the mandate of the UN Technology Bank for the LDCs by reaffirming that the UN Technology Bank will serve as “a focal point for the Least Developed Countries to strengthen their science, technology and innovation capacity towards building sustainable productive capacities and promoting structural economic transformation”. This mandate places the UN Technology Bank at the center of the least developed countries’ efforts to advance their science, technology and innovation (STI) capacities through technology transfer and local technological capability building. The Intern will undertake a variety of tasks to support the Technology Needs Assessments (TNA) that are currently ongoing and that are planned for 2025. Under the direction and supervision of the Economic Affairs Officer, the intern shall undertake the following tasks: • Assist in preparing economic reports, concept notes and briefing documents. • Review draft chapters of reports, providing structured feedback to enhance coherence, quality, and relevance. • Compile and analyses trends, data, and other information necessary for preparing technical cooperation project proposals and reports. • Liaise with government ministries, private sector organizations, and international stakeholders to coordinate meetings, events, and follow-up communications. • Assist in outreach efforts to engage stakeholders in consultations and discussions and assist in the preparation and organization of stakeholder consultations, workshops and events. • Facilitate French-language discussions during meetings, workshops, and consultations. • Attend and summarize conferences and meetings, assist in preparing briefing notes and inputs for speeches. • Prepare PowerPoint presentations, flyers, and other analytical material. • Prepare short news and communication items and articles on relevant projects and activities • Provide logistical and communication support to ensure smooth facilitation of events. • Draft and translate correspondence, reports, and meeting minutes as needed. • Undertake other work as requested in line with the background/interest. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is an advantage. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
