Terms of Reference1. Organizational context
The present position, part of UNHCR Division of External Relations, sits in the Private Sector
Partnerships Unit in Italy, whose objectives are to raise funds from private donors, build and
strengthen a supporter base and contribute to enhance public awareness and sympathy for
refugees and people of concern.
2. The position
UNHCR has developed a Private Sector Fundraising Strategy focusing on both Individual Giving and Private Sector Partnerships, identifying priority fundraising markets and regions.
Individual Giving (IG) is targeted at the general public to secure the support of individuals through regular, unrestricted donations, cash appeals and legacies.
The aim is to generate both monthly and onetime donations from individuals using various channels and methods including direct mail, face to face fundraising, telemarketing, digital fundraising, DRTV and emergency fundraising, with focus on strong donor loyalty and lifetime value.
The purpose is to maximize the donor base from the individual giving (IG) for UNHCR, those with the ability to provide donations of between $1 to $10.000 (depending on local market conditions, as well as scope of responsibility) per year to UNHCR.
The supervisor will define work objectives and will provide regular advice and guidance. The incumbent’s workload and the assignments will remain under constant scrutiny and direction of the supervisor.
3. Duties and responsibilities
• Assist in the implementation of the Donor Development program and support in the development and retention of existing donors.
• Assist in research, preparation, editing and production of compelling donor content to show UNHCR's impact, create emotive storytelling to generate empathy and raise funds across all channels.
• Assist with the preparation of all supportive assets for TMK such as follow up emails, briefs, trainings, and updates for TMK agents.
• Support Direct Mailing program with proofing and laser checks of print materials.
• Coordinating thank you process (copywriting, print and fulfilment and tracking in database)
• Prepare daily/weekly/monthly progress reports for TMK and DM activities.
• Perform any other duties as required.
4. Minimum qualifications required
In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
• Be either a recent graduate (having completed their studies within two years of applying) or a current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by IAU/UNESCO; and
• Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of UNHCR.
5. Desirable qualifications and skills
• Excellent computer skills and knowledge of MS Office applications.
• Excellent drafting/writing skills.
• Fluency in English and proficiency in Italian.
• Professional writing and editing skills.
6. Conditions
It is a full-time role with working hours starting from 9.00am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday (37.5 hours per week). The successful candidate will be assigned to the PSP Support the team in Rome, Italy.
Allowance: Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses.
