Work LocationValencia, Spain Expected duration6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information, and Telecommunications Technologies Services and Training to all peacekeeping and special political missions worldwide. This internship is located in the Analytics and Location Intelligence Unit (ALIU) within Client Solutions Delivery Section (CSDS) under Service for Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies (SGITT) at UNGSC, Valencia, Spain. The internship is for six (6) months. One (1) post is available. The internship is unpaid and full-time. Our interns work as full members of our team, pursue projects that are designed to make a significant difference in UNGSC, and have opportunities to learn about the United Nations overall. The intern will work under the direct guidance of the Chief of ALIU and will be responsible for the following duties: • Cartographic Production: Assist with the creation, editing and publishing of high-quality maps and layouts using ArcGIS Pro. • Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT): Contribute to conducting spatial analysis and geospatial intelligence gathering to support strategic and operational decision-making. • Imagery Intelligence (IMINT): Assist in processing and analyzing satellite and aerial imagery as well as open-source information to extract actionable intelligence. • Geospatial Data Processing: Assist in utilizing geoprocessing tools to analyze, clean, and transform geospatial datasets for intelligence applications. • Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT): Contribute to collect, analyze, and integrate publicly available data to support intelligence efforts. • Map Design & Visualization: Assist in applying cartographic principles to enhance geospatial intelligence presentation. • Quality Assurance: Assist in conducting rigorous validation and accuracy checks for all geospatial products. • Data Management: Contribute to maintain geospatial databases, ensuring metadata consistency and adherence to UN geospatial standards. • Other Duties as required. Qualifications/special skillsPlease note that to qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). The field of studies must be closely related to the type of Internship you are applying for, such as Geography, Geomatics, Computer Science, or a related fields. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Candidate must have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Candidate must have a strong knowledge of geospatial data formats (e.g., vector, raster) and database management systems. Candidate must have knowledge of Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT) and spatial analysis techniques. Candidate must have knowledge of Imagery Intelligence (IMINT) and satellite/aerial imagery analysis. Candidate must have familiarity with Geoprocessing tools and workflows in ArcGIS. Knowledge of ArcGIS Pro for cartographic production and geospatial intelligence analysis is desirable.
