Work LocationHome-based Expected duration9 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority. It sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system, and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. Additionally, UNEP plays a pivotal role in the Global Environment Facility (GEF), serving as both a GEF implementing and executing agency to drive impactful environmental projects. In this context, a consultant is required to support the development of CEO Endorsement documents for two global projects: the Nature for Cooling Challenge (NCC) and the Climate-Nature Banking Initiative. The first project is led by UNEP’s Cities Unit, which serves as the GEF executing agency, while the second project is led by the UNEP Finance Initiative (UNEP FI). The consultant will undertake the following tasks: - Support the planning and executing the project preparation process and develop the full CEO Endorsement Request package for the global Nature for Cooling Challenge medium-sized GEF project (one-step), under the supervision and in close cooperation with of both the Cool Coalition Global Coordinator in the Cities Unit and the Task Manager for GEF mitigation projects in the Climate Change Mitigation Unit. - Support the planning and executing the project preparation process and develop the full CEO Endorsement Request package for the Climate-Nature Banking Initiative (one-step), under the supervision and in close cooperation with of both the UNEP FI and the Task Manager for GEF global mitigation projects in the Climate Change Mitigation Unit. Qualifications/special skillsACADEMIC - Advanced university degree in development, environment, management, business administration, economics, or a related discipline is required; - A first level degree with additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree; • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in developing, assessing, evaluating or managing projects in the field of climate change, renewable energy, environment or development is required. • Experience in drafting project proposals and assessing project documents, including concepts, progress reports, work plans, and financial documents (budgets and expenditure reports) is required; • Experience in working on global projects is required; • Experience in working with multilateral or bilateral funding entities in the field of climate change, renewable energy environment or development is desirable; • Experience working with GEF or UNEP projects is desirable; LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
