Job Summary:

Manages the day to day accounting of general ledger preparation, operational accounting, support of budget and forecast activities and country offices by initiating, developing, and implementing organizational accounting best practices. Leads the accounting staff and ensures accurate financial reporting.

Accountabilities:

  • Leads and manages key processes for year-end closing, associated field audits and analysis of government expenses and audited financial statements.
  • Manages day to day accounting functions ensuring accounting practices and procedures are timely, efficient, and compliant with all requirements and regulations.
  • Ensures an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close.
  • Collaborates with the other finance department managers to support overall department goals and objectives.
  • Supports budget and forecasting activities.
  • Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
  • Provide training to new and existing staff as needed.
  • Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
  • Oversees the general ledger group to ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met.
  • Supervises, coaches, and mentors staff with delegating responsibilities and conducting performance reviews.

        Supervision Given/Received:

        • Manages staff to meet departmental and organizational strategic goals.
        • Sets own goals and determine how to accomplish results within company procedures.
        • Develops and recommends solutions to management to meet needs of the company.
        • Typically reports to an Associate Director or Director.

          Education:

          • Bachelor's Degree or its International Equivalent.

            Experience:

            • Typically requires a minimum of 5+ years of experience with managing US government and contract accounting, budgeting, financial reporting and auditing.
            • Articulate, professional and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner with clients and staff. * Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English.
            • Prior work in a non-governmental organization (NGO).
