Work LocationHome-based Expected duration5 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. 1. Coordinate China–Brazil forest cooperation activities - Plan and organize a China study exchange mission as a follow-up to the Brazil–China Researchers’ Symposium on Forests. - Support the design of joint cooperation initiatives focused on forest-positive economies and restoration. - Facilitate knowledge exchange and collaboration between research, policy, and implementation partners. - Provide technical and logistical support for the development of a joint platform on forests and nature. 2. Support UNEP CCMU’s carbon market and nature-based solutions engagement in China -Engage with government, private-sector, and technical partners to advance guidance on investment in high-quality forest credits. - Contribute to knowledge products and dialogues linking China’s carbon market development with international best practices. - Identify and support pilot collaboration opportunities to expand market access for nature-based solutions. - Prepare communication materials, key messages, and outreach content highlighting UNEP’s role in advancing credible forest carbon approaches. 3. Deliver China-focused outreach and resource mobilization events -Organize stakeholder and donor engagement events to strengthen partnerships around forests, carbon finance, and biodiversity. -Prepare concept notes, participant briefs, and event reports summarizing outcomes and next steps. -Coordinate logistics, partner engagement, and media visibility to ensure high-quality delivery and follow-up. 4. Facilitate Interfaith and multi-stakeholder collaboration on forests -Develop and deliver an interfaith and forest co-benefits exhibit or dialogue to promote shared environmental values. - Engage interfaith leaders, philanthropies, and cultural institutions in China to strengthen awareness and cooperation. - Produce communication materials and digital content to position UNEP as a convener for cross-sector collaboration on forests and sustainability. The consultant will work under the direct supervision of the UN-REDD Global Knowledge and Communications Coordinator . Qualifications/special skillsEducation: • An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in communications, media, and /or journalism is required. • A first-level university degree in the above-mentioned fields, in combination with an additional two years of qualifying experience, will be given due consideration in lieu of the advanced university degree. Experience: • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience required. • Experience in forest, climate change, and REDD+ communication is required. • Proven experience working in China, including stakeholder engagement, is required. • Demonstrated expertise in organizing events and exhibits is required. • Experience in donor outreach and resource mobilization is required. • Prior work with the United Nations or similar organizations is required. Skills: • Strong event management and stakeholder coordination skills. • Ability to craft strategic messaging and outreach materials. • High-level understanding of international development and UN systems. • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines. Languages• English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this consulting position, fluency in oral and written English is required. • Knowledge of Chinese and/or another UN language is highly desirable Additional InformationNot available.
