    Job Title: Emergency Nurse, SSA-4 (Part-time)

    Type of contract & Grade: Special Service Agreement (SSA, level 4)

    Duration: 11 Months, with maximum of 60 working days (Part-time and on need-based basis to cover the function while current staff is away on mission or absence or when need arise,)

    Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities (Not All-Inclusive)

    • Respond promptly and effectively to emergency and non-emergency calls, providing BLS/ACLS as appropriate.
    • Deliver pre-hospital, inter-hospital, and on-site emergency care in line with internationally recognized guidelines (BLS, ACLS, PHTLS/ATLS).
    • Operate and maintain emergency medical equipment (ventilators, cardiac monitors, defibrillators) and administer medications as prescribed.
    • Provide trauma care, including fracture immobilization, bleeding control, and other life-saving interventions.
    • Accompany patients to local hospitals or during medical evacuations, ensuring patient confidentiality at all times.
    • Visit staff members admitted to the hospital and liaise with the treating medical team to stay informed about their medical management and treatment plan.
    • Provide support with any administrative matters related to the patient's admission and discharge.
    • Support field responses to emergencies involving WFP staff or eligible dependents in coordination with management, security, and medical colleagues.
    • Assist in delivering primary healthcare, dispensing prescribed medicines, performing minor procedures, and liaising with hospitals in the doctor’s absence.
    • Maintain accurate patient records in line with WFP/JMAT SOPs, including entries in electronic medical systems.
    • Safeguard patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with WFP policies and professional ethics.
    • Inspect ambulance and clinic medical supplies regularly; replace expired or used items as necessary.
    • Participate in wellness campaigns, medical screenings, and vaccination drives. Prepare timely medical reports and participate in relevant meetings and WFP wellness initiatives. Conduct BLS/ACLS and first-aid training sessions for WFP staff and other JMAT medical personnel. Manage pharmaceutical stocks and ensure all clinic equipment is functional.
    • In the absence of the doctor, coordinate clinic operations in consultation with the Head Doctor and Project Manager and submit weekly/monthly reports.
    • Provide medical escort services for high-level delegations when required.
    • Provide in-flight medical escort services to WFP employees and their eligible dependents, as required, for patient transfers from Field Offices to Juba, and from Juba to Nairobi or Kampala
    • Contribute to WFP disaster and emergency preparedness and response planning.
    • Travel to the FO for a mission to give ground support as needed and do Health risk assessments.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Doctor or Project Manager.

      Standard Minimum Qualifications

      Education:

      • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or a three-year Diploma in Nursing.
      • Certification in emergency care or paramedicine from an accredited institution.
      • Valid nursing or paramedic license in the country of origin.
      • Mandatory certifications: BLS and ACLS.
      • Additional advantage: PHTLS or ATLS certification.

        Experience:

        • Minimum of 3 years in emergency medicine, remote medicine, flight medicine, ICU, or critical care.
        • Experience in hardship or insecure environments is an asset.
        • Prior experience in humanitarian, international, or UN settings is desirable.
