Company Description

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.

Job Description

Introduction

As an Electron Beam Welding Engineer, you will have the opportunity to get involved in the whole lifecycle of mechanical fabrication of components for CERN's particle accelerators. Come and test yourself against a diverse range of fabrication technologies, serving as the link between physics and mechanical production. Join a team of highly qualified technicians and engineers in Electron Beam Welding. You enjoy both scientific and workshop activities. Take Part!

You will join the Engineering Department (EN), which pushes forward the limits of technology so that physicists can carry out their research. Within the Mechanical & Material Engineering Group (MME) of the EN department, you will join the Forming & Welding Section (FW) that provides expertise and support in the field of metal forming and assembly technologies. This Section undertakes the fabrication of prototypes or small series using a wide range of in-house technologies and realizes various development studies.

Functions

As an Electron Beam Welding Engineer in the Forming & Welding Section, you will:

Be in charge of the manufacturing of beryllium components for CERN’s experimental facilities.Develop an in-depth expertise in the manufacture of beryllium components including metallurgy and machining and specifically in the field of welding. In particular, master safety aspects related to this material.Set up a workshop dedicated to beryllium welding, including procuring the necessary equipment.Document work and activity through written technical reports and presentations.Establish a network and maintain contacts with specialised laboratories / firms worldwide.Develop expertise in other assembly technologies and manage large manufacturing projects.
