Company Description

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.

Job Description

Introduction

Join CERN as an Electrical Cabling Technical Engineer and become a key player in expanding and enhancing our cutting-edge experimental areas! In this role, you will be at the forefront of technical innovation, from shaping project plans to hands-on involvement in cabling installations. Take part!

You will join the Beams (BE) Department that provides CERN with the specific competencies required for the conception, design, survey, alignment, control and operation of accelerators, accelerator test facilities, secondary beam lines and experimental areas.

The Experimental Areas (EA) Group which is responsible for planning and coordinating all activities in the CERN Experimental Areas and associated facilities. The Group provides support to the diverse experiments that use the CERN accelerator complex, in particular their preparation, integration, installation, and operation, as well as the design, installation, and maintenance of the beam transport lines used to provide the array of particles required for these experiments.

Within the Experimental Areas (EA) group of the BE department, you will join the Engineering and Configuration Management Section in the Cabling and Connectors Service, which is responsible for the manufacture of cabling and connections, production of electromechanical crates and installation of cables in the accelerators and experimental areas. The service has a unique expertise in interconnection systems and provides engineering and coordination support to the experimental areas as well as CERN users, supporting them with their cabling and connector requests.

Functions

As an Electrical Cabling Technical Engineer, you will actively contribute to the continuous extension and consolidation of experimental areas across CERN, participating in preparatory activities in the workshops, following up contracts and directly intervening in the supervision of cabling installations.

Note: Good visual perception of colors is essential for this role due to the nature of cabling work.

You will:

Participate in studies including the definition of cable types, connectors’ assembly and routing, in collaboration with users and taking into consideration the constraints of the work environment;Develop test benches for cable and connector qualification tests, including the corresponding procedures;Produce detailed procedures (including aspects such as safety, insurance of quality and control) for the contractors and users;Organise cabling and de-cabling campaigns with external and internal stakeholders (contractors);Organise and manage worksite meetings;Conduct performance and acceptance tests;Supervise junior members of the team and follow-up on work done by contractors;Participate (hands-on) in workshop activities, contributing directly to the installation and maintenance of critical cabling systems.
