Work LocationNew York Expected duration6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe UN Human Security Unit’s (HSU) overall goal is to (i) mainstream human security in the activities of the United Nations and (ii) extend the global awareness of the approach and its usage by the United Nations system, UN Member States, regional and sub-regional bodies and non-Governmental organizations. While accomplishments have been numerous over the last two decades, the Unit and the UN Trust Fund for Human Security (UNTFHS) are at a critical crossroads where every effort must be made to expand political and financial support for the Fund. In this context, in 2026, building on the momentum from the 2024 report of the Secretary-General on human security (A/78/665) and the 2025 report of the Secretary-General, The Security We Need: Rebalancing Military Spending for a Sustainable and Peaceful Future, as well as other developments that underscore the growing support for human security among governments, the HSU will prioritize mobilizing resources to strengthen the financial sustainability of the UNTFHS. As a key mechanism for the UN system to respond to emerging and future multi-layered crises, such as the multidimensional impacts of climate change and disasters, growing inequalities and disenfranchisement, increasing displacement, evolving digital threats, and the nexus among these challenges, the Unit and the Fund will direct attention on providing support to Member States in meeting their current commitments, particularly those outlined in the Pact for the Future, as well as other global events and priority agendas. To this end, the main objective of this individual contract is to assist the HSU in maintaining up-to-date donor-related information, identifying opportunities to enhance strategic partnerships, and backstop resource mobilization and outreach activities led by the HSU. For this position, the individual contractor will: - Work with the Chief of the HSU and the Resource Mobilization Officer to implement the 2026 region-specific resource mobilization and outreach strategy. - Maintain up-to-date donor profiles, enabling better donor analysis and management, including but not limited to budget cycles of priority donors, trends vis-à-vis major UN donors, trends related to key thematic issues and priority agendas for human security, and information related to monitoring engagement with prospective donors. - Closely monitor donor information for priority active and prospective donors through reputable news sources, including digital media platforms, new policy documents, and relevant statements and engagements by senior government officials in capitals and New York. - Create donor-focused content for the HSU website, social media platforms, and other briefs and substantive materials for donor meetings, outreach events, and other engagements. - Assist in preparation of high-level Member State donor meetings including the organization of special events, field visits and other collaborative efforts with key partners.
