  The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has deployed a small data centre within the UN Annex building. The data centre is integral to supporting the organization's IT infrastructure, including servers, networking equipment, and associated services. We are seeking a qualified Data Centre Administrator to manage and maintain this infrastructure effectively   Objective

To ensure the continuous and efficient operation of the data center by administering servers, managing licenses, coordinating with service providers, and performing routine maintenance tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Data Centre Administrator will be responsible for the following tasks:

Server Administration Install, configure, and maintain physical and virtual servers (VMware). Monitor server performance and ensure optimal operation. Implement security measures and perform regular updates. Network Management Manage network devices including switches, routers, and firewalls (Fortinet). Ensure network availability and reliability. Troubleshoot network issues and optimize performance. Storage Management Oversee storage solutions and manage data backup and recovery processes. Ensure data integrity and availability. Security Implement and maintain security protocols to protect data and systems. Monitor for and respond to security incidents. Maintenance and Support Perform routine maintenance and updates on all data center equipment. Provide technical support and resolve issues promptly. Vendor Management Liaise with service providers for equipment maintenance and software licensing. Manage contracts and ensure compliance with service agreements. Documentation Maintain comprehensive documentation of the data center's configuration, processes, and procedures. Prepare regular reports on data center performance and issues.
  Competencies  
Technical Skills: Proficiency in managing virtual environments using VMware. Strong knowledge of Linux operating systems. Experience with network security and firewall management, particularly Fortinet products. Familiarity with backup and disaster recovery solutions. Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities. Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently
  Required Skills and Experience   Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field. Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in data centre administration or a similar role. Proven experience with VMware, Linux, network management, and security practices.
