Your team
Within the The Directorate Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre, the \"Technical Systems\" service is responsible for the maintenance, development and improvement of software products which support MUAC in achieving its safety and capacity targets and sustain the growing air traffic demand. It provides also resources to various projects in its area of expertise and maintains technical hardware.
Your role
Your role will be to:
- Contribute to the design and development of the Common Platform Services (CPS) products with a focus on performance, stability, and scalability; develop and implement best practices in coding, testing, and deployment to achieve excellence in software delivery.
Provide expert-level technical guidance within multidisciplinary project teams and ensure project deliverables adhere to timelines, and the highest quality standards while coordinating efforts. Ensure that the deliverables fulfil the business needs and are compliant with safety, security and quality standards to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of the IT systems within the scope and to the standards defined in applicable policies. Collaborate with stakeholders and end-users to gather requirements, translate business objectives into technical specifications, and align of solutions with organisational goals. Conduct in-depth analysis of system performance, identify root causes of complex issues and address potential technical and operational problems. Develop, review, and maintain technical documentation (i.e. standards, processes); document all stages of the software development lifecycle, including design specifications, system configurations, and user guides, to support efficient operation and maintenance. Contribute as a direct sparring partner to the architecture team for the realization of the technical reference architecture. Train and coach software developers to become familiar with the CPS products and become more proficient as developers overall. Stay updated on latest technological developments/methods/best practices/trends and share them within the internal/external community to enhance organisational knowledge. Carry out any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.
Required qualifications, experience & competencies
Completed university studies in a relevant domain (e.g. Computer Science, Engineering or in another related technical field) of 4 years or of 3 years plus 1-year relevant professional experience. Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience. Experience in software design, testing and architecture. Experience in Kubernetes, Kibana, Grafana, ElasticSearch, Prometheus. Experience in Kafka, accompanied by certification like CCDAK (Confluent) or EX482 (Red Hat). Experience / Knowledge in Platform as a Service (PaaS). Technical drafting skills in English. The following would be an advantage/asset:
Experience in other broker technologies (RabbitMQ, Solace, Redpanda) Strong understanding of distributed systems and real-time data processing Experience with Air Traffic Management systems or similar mission-critical systems Analytical thinking: You analyse information and identify relationships. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. For this particular job, candidates must be proficient users of English at level C1. The levels relate to the European-framework-reference Common European Framework of References for languages (CEFR).

The selected candidate will be offered a contract for a duration of 5 Year(s) in accordance with the provisions of the Staff Regulations governing officials at EUROCONTROL. This contract may be renewed for a total duration of up to nine (9) years, or it may be converted into an undetermined contract. The internal staff member with a determined contract will be offered, in principle, an appointment for 5 Year(s) with a maximum total duration of 9 years. The successful candidate shall be appointed at the grade set out in this vacancy notice, or if a group of grades has been published for a job level, in principle at the basic grade of the published job level. Candidates declared suitable who are not selected for the post will be placed on a reserve list for similar roles. The reserve list will be valid for one year from the closing date of applications.
