Project Overview

The objective of hiring translation services for the Asia-Africa BlueTech Superhighway Project is to ensure the accuracy and reliability of translated documents. We primarily seek assistance reviewing existing translations to conduct sense-checks, ensuring the content effectively conveys the intended message across languages. This work aims to ensure the quality and clarity of all the reviewed materials from other languages to English language.

Document Review

Check existing translations for accuracy and clarity. Ensure translations convey the intended message clearly in the target language.

Translation

Translate finalized materials from English into the target languages. Maintain the original meaning, tone, and context in translations.

Quality Assurance

Identify and correct errors or inconsistencies in translations. Suggest improvements to enhance translation quality.

Cultural Adaptation

Adjust content to fit cultural and linguistic norms for each target country.

Design Support

Adapt document designs to be visually appealing and culturally suitable. Ensure proper formatting and layout for different languages.

Collaboration

Work with project leads to gather feedback and address concerns. Ensure smooth communication between translation, design teams, and project leads.

Country-Specific Requirements

Ensure translations are accurate and culturally relevant for each specific country:

o    Mozambique (Portuguese)

o    Tanzania (Swahili)

o    Kenya (Swahili)

o    Bangladesh (Bengali)

o    Indonesia (Indonesian)

o    Vietnam (Vietnamese)

o    Philippines (Filipino)

Scope of Work

For carrying out the abovementioned activities the consultant is expected to:

1.     Document Review: 

Review Existing Translated Documents: 

o    Evaluate current translations to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency with the original content. 

o    Conduct sense-checks to verify that the translated text effectively conveys the intended message in the target language for the respective countries. 

2.     Translation from English:

Translation of Finalized Material: 

o    Translate finalized materials from English into the target languages of each respective country. 

o    Ensure that translations maintain the meaning, tone, and context of the original English material. 

3.     Quality Assurance:

Error and Consistency Checks: 

o    Identify any errors, inconsistencies, or mistranslations in the documents. 

o    Provide recommendations for improvements or revisions to enhance the quality and effectiveness of the translations. 

4.     Cultural and Linguistic Context:

Cultural Considerations: 

o    Consider cultural nuances and linguistic conventions specific to each country (Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines) during the review process. 

o    Ensure that the translated content is culturally appropriate and resonates with the target audience in each country. 

5.     Design Support:

Visual Adaptation: 

o    Adapt document designs to ensure they are visually appealing and appropriate for the target audience in each country. 

o    Ensure that any graphical elements, colors, and layouts align with cultural preferences and norms. 

 Formatting and Layout: 

o    Ensure that translated documents maintain proper formatting and layout consistency. 

o    Adjust text flow, images, and other design elements to accommodate language-specific text expansions or contractions. 

6.     Communication with Work Package Leads:

Feedback and Collaboration: 

o    Collaborating with Work Package Leads to gather feedback and address concerns regarding the translated and designed documents. 

o    Facilitate clear and effective communication between the translation and design team and Work Package Leads to ensure alignment with project objectives.

7.     Country-Specific Details:

Mozambique (Portuguese): 

o    Ensure translations accurately reflect the Portuguese language used in Mozambique, considering local idiomatic expressions and cultural references. 

Tanzania (Swahili): 

o    Focus on the use of Swahili language that is widely understood and culturally relevant in Tanzania. 

 Kenya (Swahili): 

o    Ensure that Swahili translations are appropriate for the Kenyan context, considering regional dialects and usage. 

 Bangladesh (Bengali/Bangla): 

o    Ensure translations into Bengali are accurate and culturally appropriate for the Bangladeshi audience. 

 Indonesia (Indonesian): 

o    Ensure that Indonesian translations are clear, culturally relevant, and resonate with the Indonesian audience. 

 Vietnam (Vietnamese): 

o    Ensure Vietnamese translations are accurate and culturally suitable for the Vietnamese context. 

 Philippines (Filipino): 

o    Ensure translations into Filipino effectively communicate the intended message and are culturally appropriate for the Philippine audience.

Requirements

Skills

Linguistic Proficiency:

Fluency in Portuguese (Mozambique), Swahili (Tanzania and Kenya), Bengali (Bangladesh), Indonesian (Indonesia), Vietnamese (Vietnam), and Filipino (Philippines). Strong command of English.

Translation:

Accurate translation from English, maintaining meaning, tone, and context. Conducting sense-checks to ensure the message is effectively conveyed.

Quality Assurance:

Identifying errors and inconsistencies. Providing recommendations for improvements.

Cultural Competence:

Understanding cultural nuances and linguistic conventions. Ensuring cultural appropriateness and resonance with local audiences.

Design and Visual Adaptation:

Adapting document designs to be visually appealing and culturally appropriate. Adjusting graphical elements, colors, and layouts.

Formatting and Layout:

Maintaining formatting and layout consistency. Adjusting text flow and design elements for language-specific text changes.

Communication and Collaboration:

Facilitating effective feedback and collaboration with Work Package Leads and stakeholders.

Experience

Translation and Localization:

Translating and localizing content for multiple languages and regions. Working with diverse linguistic and cultural contexts.

Quality Assurance in Translation:

Conducting quality checks and providing revision recommendations.

Design and Adaptation:

Adapting document designs for different cultural contexts. Using design software and tools.

Project Collaboration:

Collaborating with cross-functional teams and managing feedback.

 

Knowledge

Linguistic and Cultural Knowledge:

In-depth understanding of languages and cultural nuances in the specified countries.

Translation Standards:

Familiarity with industry standards and best practices in translation and localization. Knowledge of translation tools and technologies.

Design Principles:

Understanding design principles and best practices for visual adaptation and formatting. Proficiency in design software.

Project Management:

Understanding project management principles for timely and efficient task completion. Effective communication and collaboration techniques for diverse teams.

Budget

The interested agencies will be requested to provide a detailed budget proposal outlining professional fees, travel expenses (if applicable), and any other costs related to the consultancy. The budget should be submitted along with the application.

Evaluation and Selection

Applications will be evaluated based on the qualifications and experience of the consultant, the quality and feasibility of the proposed approach and work plan, the relevance of previous work examples and the most competitive proposal. Shortlisted agency may be invited for an interview or request additional information before final selection. This opportunity is open for all agencies.
