Work LocationHome-based (includes travel to Sao Paolo, Brazil, 1 - 4 April 2025) Expected duration3 March - 29 August 2025 Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe assignment falls within the Space Economy project of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to provide specialized technical assistance services to the Brazilian Space Agency (AEB) to strengthen the competitiveness of the Brazilian space economy, enhance cooperation between public and private stakeholders, as well as between space and non-space sectors, with the aim to deliver socio-economic development to the country as a whole. This three-year project is divided into two phases. The first phase focused on the preparation of a research report on the space economy in Brazil, the delivery of e-learning modules introducing Space Economy in general and a Masterclass on Space Economy delivered to staff members of AEB. The first phase was completed in 2024. The second phase is further divided into two parts. Part One focuses on leveraging the findings from the research report and organization of focus groups and interviews in 2025 to develop a strategic roadmap for the Brazilian space economy. Part Two focuses on the development and implementation of capacity-building activities with AEB. The consultant will support the execution of Part One of the second phase of the project by undertaking desk-based research, conducting a series of stakeholder interviews and a focus group, and synthesizing the information to develop a comprehensive strategic roadmap for the Brazilian space economy. This Roadmap aims to provide AEB with strategic guidance and practical approaches that address both short- and long-term objectives, focusing on growth in key space segments and fostering synergies with non-space sectors, with particular emphasis on commercialization and internationalization. Qualifications/special skills- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in economics, business administration, political science, international relations, social sciences, engineering or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. - At least seven (7) years of working experience in implementing projects, consulting and/or research in the field of Space Economy is required - Working experience in an international organization is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required.
