The IUCN World Conservation Congress
Every four years, the World Conservation Congress brings together several thousand participants for a seven-day event, including 3.5 days for the IUCN Members’ Assembly, preceded by a 3.5-day Forum with several hundred events open to the public. The Congress also includes an exhibit hall open to the public, featuring up to 150 stands and central presentation areas. The next edition will take place in Abu Dhabi from 9-15 October 2025.

2. The IUCN Leaders Forum
This annual meeting complements the four-year cycle of the World Conservation Congress, convening approximately 500 participants. The next edition will take place in Geneva from 8-10 October 2024.

3. Other Global Events
IUCN organises multiple events with varying frequencies and scales. The Congress Webmaster may be required to assist with content updates on existing websites. JOB DESCRIPTION The Congress Website Management Officer will be responsible for publishing, uploading, formatting and optimising web content to the IUCN Congress website as necessary to achieve the outcomes assigned by the Director General, the Director of Global Communications and by the Director of Global Convenings and Events.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

The main responsibilities follow an estimated working schedule that adjusts to the workload prior to events.

From August 2024 to July 2025 (work percentage: 50%):
• Publish and optimise content and images prepared by the Global Communications Unit (GCU), the Global Convening and Events Unit (GCEU), or other IUCN units to the Congress Virtual Platform if requested.
• Maintain pages with content provided by IUCN Congress and communications teams including deadlines, logistics, substantive and marketing information for IUCN Members, event organisers, Congress participants and external target audiences including the media. This requires a full understanding of internal and external Congress deadlines and IUCN policies and includes managing content providers, consultants, translators to update key pages within the required time frame.
• Assigning roles to specific users.
• Creating banners and/or buttons to direct traffic to specific pages (motions list, sessions calendar, etc).
• Provide recommendations and solutions for efficient and user-friendly ways to present information on the Congress website
• Debug pages, fix broken links or images and optimize loading speeds as needed.
• Ensure visual identity, global communications standards and website management best practices (e.g. regarding pages, assets, structure / taxonomies, SEO, optimization for social media activities, etc…) are respected across the Congress website.
• Create regular email newsletters in all three languages using the CiviCRM platform, the Congress email html template and content provided by the IUCN Congress and communications teams.
• Act as liaison between the GCEU, GCU, Global Information Services Group (GISG) and the Drupal Technical Consultants in issues related with technical needs in terms of the Congress website administration and the development of new features. This includes assisting with necessary transformations to the website structure before, during and after the Congress.
• Work with the GCU, GCEU, the Host Country communications representative(s), IUCN programmes, regional offices and other focal points regarding the Congress website. This include providing support to edit pages and maintaining a coherent structure to the Congress website with the addition of new pages.
• Help in the design of simple graphic elements, buttons or page layouts for the website or other audio-visual communications material for use on the Congress website.
• Track and report KPIs and other relevant page performance statistics using Google Analytics.
• Gain a good understanding of the Congress programme and issues
• Gain an excellent understanding of IUCN Congress website functionality, web content management system and IUCN social media platforms
• Upload content and maintain the functionality and usability of the Congress website
• Add, format content to the Congress email newsletter template and send Congress emails through the IUCN CiviCRM system
• Understand, and support coordination of links and interfaces between Congress systems (Motions/Resolutions, Congress Programme, etc.) parts of the Congress website
• Liaise with the website development consultants and other affected IUCN units to troubleshoot issues
• Support the Digital Manager and Congress communications and other teams with web-related issues as required
• Participate in meetings with the Congress or communications teams, if required, and communicate regularly with them.

From August to October 2025 (work percentage: 100%)
• Participate onsite in the Congress in Abu Dhabi in October 2025
- Attend morning communications and/or logistics team onsite meetings
- Ensure that IUCN Congress website is fully functional at all times during Congress hours
- Fulfil requests from IUCN communication managers for website content posting, troubleshooting fixes, updates or changes
- Upload content and format Congress email communications
- Send Congress email communications, including Daily Updates, through the IUCN CRM system
- You may be asked to complete other tasks by your line manager
- Prepare final “lessons learnt” with key recommendations on efforts deployed and results achieved on the Congress website and help prepare internal reporting
- Publish and optimise content and images prepared by the Global Communications Unit, The Global Convening and Events Unit, or other IUCN units to the Congress Virtual Platform if requested

From November 2025 to February 2026 (work percentage: 50%)
- Update content on websites, including content for IUCN Leaders Forum 2026
- Assist in the debriefing sessions to evaluate the Congress’s digital performance and gather feedback for future improvements.
- Coordinate with the IT, Congress and Communications teams to archive and maintain Congress digital assets, including videos, presentations, and documents, for future reference.
- Create lessons learn document.
- Provide Google analytics reports if requested.

REQUIREMENTS • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Web Development, Communications, or a related field

• Good knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop)

• Good experience with Canva

• Proven experience in web content management, preferably using Drupal

• Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and basic graphic design

• Good understanding of usability and accessibility standards and UX principles

• Proficiency in SEO, web analytics (Google Analytics), Search Console, and email marketing and relevant tools

• Excellent organisational and time management skills

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills

• Proficiency in English (knowledge of French and/or Spanish and/or Arabic is a plus)

• Experience in event management or working with international organisations is an asset

• Willingness to work flexible hours and travel when required SALARY The gross annual salary for this position is between CHF 86'330 and CHF 107'913, subject to deductions for social security contributions and second-pillar pension, and before tax. While this is an indicative amount effective as of the current date, changes may occur as per IUCN's compensation practices without prior notice. The same applies to other organisations hosted by IUCN.
