The intern will work closely with the department to support key country office communication initiatives and contribute to the overall advocacy strategy. The intern will need to be highly motivated and passionate about communicating and storytelling. They should be prepared to work collaboratively with a team and be able to meet deadlines. The intern should be open to feedback and willing to learn from their mistakes.
The intern will be expected to:
Assist in the development of communication materials, including media packages, fact sheets and social media content
Support the country office in the production and finalisation of communications products
Produce content for use for country’s influencing
Conduct research on key regional issues and compile reports for internal use
Support the planning and implementation of communication campaigns and events
Monitor media coverage and social media trends relevant to Kenya
Assist in the maintenance of the country office online presence, including the website and social media accounts
Travel to field locations in Kenya for content gathering (video, photo and text)
As part of the internship, the intern will be expected to undergo in-house training in NRC’s branding and house style, digital asset systems, ethics, and other relevant areas
Currently enrolled in final year or recently graduated (past 18 months) with a Degree in Communications, Journalism, International Relations, or a related field.
Skills and Experience
Excellent English writing skills and attention to detail
Sound photography and filming skills
Knowledge of digital storytelling techniques
Knowledge of and interest in regional humanitarian issues
Experience in using social media for advocacy and outreach
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite (photo, audio and video editing, and design)
