The Consultant will report to the Project Coordinator and will be responsible for producing a series of four 2-page information sheets focused on increasing urban water resilience to climate change impacts in Arab region cities. The intended audience for the information sheets includes policymakers, urban planners, farmers, and households interested in installing rooftop rainwater harvesting systems and/or growing permaculture gardens. The position is located in the Climate Change and Natural Resource Sustainability Cluster at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in Beirut, Lebanon. Responsibilities With delegated authority, the Consultant will be responsible for the following duties: • Working with project managers at ESCWA and UN-Habitat to determine the appropriate scope and focus of the information sheets; • Performing desk research on topics such as rainwater harvesting, permaculture, sustainable agriculture, climate mainstreamed urban planning, and treated wastewater in irrigation to inform information sheet development; • Collect inputs for the information sheets from ESCWA and UN-Habitat staff based on their field experience; • Draft four information sheets in English. Qualifications/special skillsA Master’s degree in water resource management, environmental science, international development, urban planning, climate change adaptation, or related field is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of 5 years of experience in climate change adaptation, urban planning, and water related topics is required. Experience in drafting policy briefs and technical papers on water, climate change, and climate change impacts at the city level is required. Proficiency using Microsoft Word Office applications (Word, Excel) is required. LanguagesEnglish and French and the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For the position advertised, fluency in English and Arabic is required. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
