Duties and ResponsibilitiesThis position is located within the Communications and Results Reporting Section (CRRS) of the United Nations Development Coordination Office (DCO) Headquarters in New York. To ensure a United Nations that is fit-for-purpose to deliver on the ambition of the SDGs, the General Assembly adopted the most far-reaching development reforms in the history of the organization in May 2018. At the core of resolution 72/279 was the establishment of a reinvigorated, independent, impartial, and empowered Resident Coordinator (RC) system to support a new generation of UN country teams (UNCTs). DCO oversees managerial and oversight functions of the Resident Coordinator system under the collective ownership of the members of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group (UNSDG). The position reports to a Communications Officer and is under the overall supervision of the Chief of CRRS. Responsibilities Within delegated authority, the incumbent is responsible for the following duties, which focus on the day-to-day maintenance and support of UNCT websites: Content Management • Upload and update text, images, and multimedia content on UNCT websites as requested. • Ensure content is formatted correctly, tagged, and compliant with UN branding and accessibility standards. • Support multi-language content updates and basic translation as needed. Website Maintenance • Perform regular quality assurance checks, including broken links, missing images, and page responsiveness. • Monitor site uptime and report technical issues promptly to the technical team or vendor. • Assist with minor troubleshooting for CMS-related issues. User Support • Provide first-level support to UNCT website managers and focal points, responding to queries on content updates and basic functionality. • Share quick guides and best practices for using the CMS. Basic Monitoring • Track website performance indicators (e.g., traffic, engagement), using Google Analytics or similar tools and provide simple monthly summaries. • Flag recurring issues or trends for escalation. Collaboration • Support digital communities of practice by sharing updates, guidelines, and maintaining asset repositories in consultation with UNCTs. Qualifications/special skillsAn advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, digital marketing, computer science, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. No work experience is required for candidates with a relevant master’s degree. For candidates with bachelor’s degree, a minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, digital marketing, web development or related areas is required. Experience collaborating with technical, creative and editorial teams to maintain multilingual websites using Drupal or comparable Content Management Systems (CMS) is required Experience in performing quality assurance reviews and in monitoring and evaluating website performance using Google Analytics or comparable tools is desirable. Experience building and supporting online collaboration platforms using Microsoft 365 or comparable productivity software is desirable.
