Unit Context
The Infrastructure Engineering team is instrumental in advancing the World Bank Group’s mission by designing, building, and maintaining the foundational IT infrastructure that supports global operations. The team manages critical infrastructure components end-to-end, including data centers, infrastructure as code, enterprise networks, storage systems, compute resources, virtualization platforms, and disaster recovery solutions. Their efforts ensure that infrastructure services are robust, secure, scalable, and cost-effective, forming the backbone for reliable digital services across all business units.

Role
Associate Infrastructure Engineer (Storage and Backup Automation Architect/Administrator) responsible for the design, development, implementation, and operation of enterprise storage and backup automation infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments (AWS, Azure, OCI) to support institutional IRE on cloud.
Key Responsibilities:
• The candidate will combine storage/backup engineering and programming skills to build automated pipelines for provisioning, protection, recovery, replication, and lifecycle management across on-prem and AWS/Azure/OCI.
• Work with on-premises storage (SAN/NAS/Object) and cloud-native storage/backup services to design standardized, secure, and scalable solutions.• Use Python and at least one additional language (e.g., Bash, PowerShell, or Go) to develop automation pipelines, APIs/integrations, and validation tests for platform operations.
• Implement infrastructure as code (Terraform preferred; CloudFormation/Bicep/OCI Resource Manager), CI/CD workflows (Git-based), and policy-driven guardrails for repeatable, compliant deployments.• Administer and operate Cohesity backup environments (on-prem and cloud), including policy design, immutability, ransomware protections, and recovery orchestration for hosts, databases, and cloud services.
• Maintain and optimize Pure Storage arrays (FlashArray/FlashBlade): provisioning, zoning, multipathing, snapshots/clones, replication, and performance tuning.• Monitor performance and diagnose problems across storage/backup infrastructure; instrument observability (Splunk, CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, OCI Logging) with dashboards, alerts, SLIs/SLOs, and automated reporting.
• Design, document, and test disaster recovery (DR) plans and runbooks; conduct periodic DR exercises, capture results, remediate gaps, and report compliance posture.• Handle escalation calls from the NOC, perform triage, resolve incidents/requests via ServiceNow; maintain high-quality documentation (drawings, spreadsheets, procedures, runbooks, KB articles).
• Lead moderate-to-large implementations, migrations, and platform upgrades; coordinate cross-functional delivery in a matrixed environment; provide capacity planning and cost optimization recommendations (tiering, deduplication, compression, lifecycle).
Selection Criteria
Educational Qualifications and Experience:
• Master's degree with 5 years relevant experience or bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 7 years’ relevant experience is required.
• Storage/Backup/recovery engineering experience is required.Required Skills/Abilities:
• Hands-on expertise with AWS, Azure, and OCI storage/data protection services (e.g., EBS/EFS/S3 with Object Lock; Azure Disks/Files/Blob; OCI Block/Object; snapshots, replication, lifecycle/tiering).• Cohesity administration and operations (policy design, protection groups, immutability, ransomware protection, recovery orchestration) across on-prem and cloud.
• Pure Storage arrays (FlashArray/FlashBlade), SAN/NAS management, zoning/multipathing, performance tuning, snapshots/replication.• Infrastructure automation and IaC: Terraform (preferred), CloudFormation/Bicep/OCI Resource Manager; pipeline orchestration with Rundeck; configuration management with Chef/Ansible (or equivalents).
• Programming proficiency in Python and at least one additional language (Bash, PowerShell, or Go); ability to design algorithms and automate recurring tasks with testable, maintainable code.• Strong Unix/Linux concepts; TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, firewalls; cloud networking (VPC/VNet/VCN), Direct Connect/ExpressRoute/FastConnect.
• Observability/analytics using Splunk, CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, OCI Logging; experience building dashboards, alerts, and automated reporting.• Security/compliance: encryption key management (KMS/CMK), IAM/RBAC, least privilege, backup immutability, data retention; familiarity with ransomware mitigation and recovery strategies.
• Service management experience with ServiceNow or similar ITSM platforms; incident, change, and problem management.• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and communicate clearly on complex technical topics.
