Your responsibilities
In this role, you will join the Accelerator Systems Department (SY), more specifically a team in the Sources, Targets and Interactions Group, who is in charge of Beam-Machine Interaction studies.
As part of the R&D project aiming at the in-house manufacturing of bent crystals for different accelerator applications, like collimation, loss reduction, and beam extraction, the you will be responsible for the validation of these crystals with beam before their installation in the machine.
Specifically, you will:
Participate in the data-taking activities in the North Area beam test, collaborating with SY-BI for testing the new TimePix4 telescope, being developed for this purpose;Be responsible for analysing the data from the test beam to verify that the crystals meet the required specifications and provide feedback for the manufacturing process;Contribute to benchmarking the FLUKA crystal model using experimental data, developing the FLUKA crystal model and performing simulations for the various use cases relevant to CERN applications.Your profile
Skills and/or knowledge
Previous experience in data analysis, physics computing, programming (e.g. Python); Any experience using particle transport Monte Carlo software (e.g. FLUKA, Geant4...) would be an advantage.Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.Eligibility criteria:
You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.You have a professional background in Applied Physics or a related field (or a related field) and have either: a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.Job closing date: 25.02.2024 at 23:59h (midnight) CET.
