Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Air Operations Assistant will be based in Yei and reports directly to the FAO Yei and works in close coordination with Air Operations in Juba. The Air Operations Assistant will be mainly responsible for the following duties: • Ensuring safe and professional conduct of all ground activities on the ramp and airside including safety/ security of airstrip/ helipad. • Monitoring control of all vehicles, cargo and personnel movement on the ramp/apron area. • Monitoring operational condition of ramp/apron, runway, taxiway, and lighting systems as applicable and report conditions to Juba Air Operation. • Monitoring control of airside access points. • Monitoring to ensure only authorized personnel; vehicle drivers and operators gain access to the airstrip/ helipad/ apron. • Monitoring, detect and halt unsafe operations on the apron/ramp. • Reporting in writing any breaches of instructions, regulations, and safety procedures to Air Operation and ensure immediate cessation of any such activities. • Attending briefings as arranged and given by the AIROPS Center and update ATU of such briefings. • Reporting weather conditions at the landing site to MAOC and to the respective Sector / Regional Air Operations Center. • Control Foreign Object Debris (FOD) in airstrip/ helipad/ apron area. • Provide appropriate Flight Information Service (any known traffic, weather information, status of airstrip/ helipad etc). • Report all departures/ arrivals of aircraft operated from airstrip/ helipad to the Air Operations Regions and/ or Mission Air Operations Center (MAOC) (Aviation Duty Officer/ Flight Following) in Juba and maintain daily log. • Assists in handling of Medical and Casualty evacuation (MEDEVAC /CASEEVAC) flights where applicable. • Maintain serviceability of night landing lights, if available, and deploy during any night flights from the airstrip/ helipad. Qualifications/special skillsHigh School Diploma or Equivalent is required. A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in Air Traffic Control or Aerodrome Flight Information Service or Flight Dispatcher or Ramp Management is required. Driving license with category A or B is required. Training in Air Traffic Control or Aerodrome Flight Information Service or Air Transport Pilot or Flight Dispatcher is required. Training on Airside Safety Management, Aircraft Marshalling, Ground handling Equipment operation is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
