The advertised position involves working in two projects commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ):
The global project “Sustainable Economic Transformation & Sustainable Finance” supports emerging and developing countries worldwide in the transformation of their economic and financial systems. The sustainable finance component, in which the advisor will be deployed, aims to systematically channel financial flows into sustainable investments by strengthening the regulatory framework and building expertise in the financial sector.
The develoPPP programme “Transitioning Towards Net Zero: Financing Nature-based Solutions” is a partnership between GIZ and Triodos Investment Management. The aim of the project is to strengthen the capacity of the private and public sectors to finance nature-based solutions and to mobilise private capital.
Ihre Aufgaben
Plan and implement project activities in the partner countries of the two projects, e.g. with financial institutions, banking associations, universities, impact investors, project developers or financial market regulators. The partner countries include Brazil, India, Mexico, Peru, Rwanda, Senegal, and Kenya. In the global project: Provide technical and strategic advice to financial institutions, including the planning and implementation of trainings measures in the field of sustainable finance, as well as advising public actors such as finance ministries and central banks on sustainable finance policy and regulation. In the develoPPP programme, this includes the identification of suitable projects and investors for financing nature-based solutions, the planning and implementation of training courses for financial institutions and coordination with external and internal stakeholders, the development of technical contributions and knowledge products, e.g. training materials for the consideration of sustainability/nature aspects in financial institutions and guidelines for the financing of nature-based solutions as well as their impact analysis and reporting. Project management tasks in the implementation of the two projects, such as budget planning and monitoring, drafting terms of reference, stakeholder coordination, management of contractors, quality assurance, impact reporting on project activities Build a strong professional network with internal and external partners at German, European and international level. Represent GIZ as a sustainable finance expert in international conferences and workshops. Contribute to the project’s strategy, operational planning, impact monitoring, as well as the initiation of new projects and acquisition of project funds
Ihr Profil
University degree (diploma/master’s degree) in economics, finance, environmental, agricultural or forestry sciences or a comparable qualification Several years of work experience in the commercial finance sector Several years of work experience in the field of sustainable finance, in particular on the following topics: Financing of sustainable projects / nature-based solutions; sustainable financial instruments; impact investing; management of sustainability risks (e.g. from climate change and biodiversity loss); sustainability reporting; transition plans In-depth understanding of nature-based solutions, especially in the areas of agriculture, forestry or mangroves, as well as technical sustainability criteria Several years of experience in project management in an international context, work experience in developing or emerging countries is highly desirable Experience in advising and delivering training to central banks, financial regulators and supervisory authorities Confident, persuasive demeanour both in professional circles and towards high-ranking stakeholders Business fluent in English and Spanish. Proficiency in German and further languages at professional level (Portuguese, French, Arabic) is considered an asset

This position is intended to be filled with 100 % of the collectively agreed working hours.
