Result of Service- A. a draft report of the expert group meeting on equal access to justice for all is prepared and shared with supervisor and colleagues and inputs are integrated and revised version finalized (10 working days, 1-24 January 2024) - B: Planning of activities on access to justice, including substantive preparations for three activities at field level (15 working days, 1-28 February 2025) - C: side event planned and delivered at the LAC RPM (3 working days, 1-28 February 2025) - D: side event planned and delivered in Vienna, Europe RPM (3 working days, 1-31 March 2025) - E: side-events planned and delivered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia(3 working days, 1-30 April 2025) - F: Three webinars planned and delivered (9 working days, 1-31 January 2025) - G: Five concept notes drafted and revised after comments (25 working days, 1-31 March 2025) - H: Selected parts of the background paper for workshop 2 prepared and revised (14 working days, 1-30 April 2025) - I : Inputs provided to the final version of the UNODC legal aid assessment tool submitted (10 working days, 31 May 2025) - J: Service side-events and organize bilateral meetings during CCPJ (12 working days, 31 May 2025) - K: Inputs provided to the final version of the e-Learning tool on quality of legal aid submitted (15 working days, 30 June 2025) - L: Preparations and substantive inputs to the delivery of a technical assistance event in the area of legal aid (7 working days, 30 June 2025) - M : Finalization of the background paper for workshop 2 in coordination with ILANUD and organizational preparations of the workshop (13 working days, 31 July2025) - N: Preparations and substantive inputs for the regional event on use of force to take place in Brazil (10 days, 31 July 2025) Work LocationVienna, Austria Expected duration01/05-31/07 2025 Duties and ResponsibilitiesUnder the supervision of the Team Leader, the consultant will: - draft the report on the expert group meeting on equal access to justice for all, in cooperation with relevant colleagues in the team and in the UNODC Office in Brazil; - prepare, coordinate with Government and other partners, and organize substantively a series of side-events to advertise the outcome of the expert group meeting during meetings such as the regional preparatory meetings of the UN Crime Congress and the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice; - research for and draft elements of the substantive background paper for workshop 2 at the Crime Congress; - organize and deliver a series of webinars on various thematic areas of the access to justice team (investigative interviewing, equal access to justice for all, victim support, access to legal aid); - take the lead in drafting project proposals, concept notes, and plan for implementation of technical assistance activities as required. Qualifications/special skillsA Masters degree in law, diplomacy, international relations, social studies or related field is required. A first level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Two years of work experience in legal research, criminal justice and/or access to justice is required. Excellent analytical and drafting skills are required. Knowledge of legal and social aspects of enhancing access to justice is desirable. Work experience with an international organization in the areas of criminal justice reform and/or access to justice, is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.
