ACF started working in Myanmar in 1994 on the treatment and prevention of malnutrition. ACF is currently implementing and developing projects addressing malnutrition, mental health and care practices, gender & protection, food security and livelihoods, water, sanitation, and hygiene promotion, nutrition security, and disaster risk reduction through an integrated approach. Since the coup d'état in February 2021, the delivery of visas for international humanitarian staff has been extremely restricted. It is possible that future international staff will enter Myanmar on a rotating basis every couple of months. However, the frequency and length of stay in Myanmar will be directly linked to the context and security in the country.
Yangon is a fairly modern city with all the facilities and comforts expected from a city. However, since the coup, increased insecurity and arrests by the military have been reported. The current coordination office in Yangon has seen its rental cost reduced by 45%. The security status is unstable.
