ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
The World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. On average, WFP reaches more than 100 million people with food assistance in 88 countries each year. About 20,000 people work for the organization, most of them in remote areas, directly serving the hungry poor. WFP is part of the United Nations system.
WFP volunteers donate their services to the Programme. It provides an opportunity to gain valuable experience working in an international professional environment and provides exposure to a truly global humanitarian organisation.
All individuals holding volunteer agreement or those to be offered volunteer opportunities in the WFP Colombia Country Office will be screened and cleared by the HR unit prior to offering a volunteer agreement, and upon extension or renewal.
There is no compensation for such volunteer services.
JOB PURPOSE
The WFP Volunteer (Communications) will be under the overall supervision of the Communications Senior Associate and will work closely with the team based in Bogota. The Unit is responsible for managing communications, advocacy, and marketing in Colombia, using traditional media, blogs, campaigns, events, and social media platforms to promote its messages. Some country specific priorities include emergency, preparedness and response, climate change adaptation, peace, and social protection to reach zero hunger.
Media monitoring
Carry out daily media monitoring, identifying relevant topics to WFP work both nationally and internationally in English and Spanish. Also, perform searches of emergency report documents of other UN agencies, partners, governments, and humanitarian groups, as well as other country status analyses from DNP and/or DANE for information purposes of the whole Country Office (CO).
Content and Products
Support the communications unit on the creation and review of content for audio-visual and written material suitable for SoMe in Spanish and/or English following WFP guidelines.
Provide support reviewing and writing stories for posting in WFP channels and other media, in Spanish and/or English including drafting of scripts, transcripts and subtitling, following WFP guidelines to do so.
Reviewing and providing inputs FOR the multimedia hub content documents to organize existing audio-visual inputs of the CO in this tool.
Support proofreading and translation (Spanish to English and vice versa) of narratives on the websites, brochures, posters, two-pagers, factsheets, reports, newsletter, infographics, and other internal and external communications materials according to corporate style and tone.
Provide editorial/design inputs to enhance the visibility of the organization.
Administrative and General Support
Complete other projects as assigned, including preparing engaging mailings and PowerPoint presentations.
STANDARD MINIMUN QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Candidates must be enrolled or just graduated from a recognized university in one of the following areas: Communications, Foreign Relations, Politics, or related areas.
Experience in national or international non-governmental organizations is desirable.
Experience in multi-cultural environments is an asset.
Language: Fluency in English and Spanish (oral and written communication).
