In this context, the Communications and Advocacy section at UN Women Headquarters in New York, supports the positioning of women’s empowerment and gender equality as key issues on the international agenda and establishes UN Women’s role as the global authority. This entails developing high-quality visual, interactive and digital content and campaigns that communicates about UN Women’s work, its brand and gender equality initiatives across digital platforms.
Reporting to the Global Lead for Communications and Advocacy, the Digital Communications Specialist will specifically support a digital transformation effort to upgrade, connect and integrate the digital infrastructure of the organization. This will enable the section to more effectively engage audiences across multiple platforms.
Key Functions and Accountabilities:
1.Lead the delivery of global web platforms for external communications and engagement.
Oversee the product vision of UN Women web platform, ensure continuous improvement and development of UN Women’s external web platform portfolio. Define high-level requirements for the platforms, specify product needs and manage product roadmap for digital platforms. Understand user needs and define and prioritize feature requirements in close collaboration with programme units and other divisions within the organization. Lead vendors and oversee the development lifecycle of digital products in partnership with the Information, Systems and Technology Unit. Track product performance; research and determine future product needs. Manage internal stakeholders and update them regularly on product development.2. Oversee the identification, implementation, and operation of global digital platforms.
Lead needs assessment to identify requirements for digital platforms, including digital asset management system, social media management platform and digital analytics to support and expand the organization’s digital operations. Track and assess platform performance to share insights regarding the platforms with stakeholders. Identify and provide recommendations for new and emerging technology platforms to stakeholders.3. Lead UN Women’s digital consolidation plan in close collaboration with the Information Systems and Telecommunications (IST) unit and the Policy, Programme and Intergovernmental Division (PPID).
Enhance UN Women digital presence at the global, regional and country level by supervising the design and implementation of new templates to upgrade the user experience in UN Women institutional channels. Integrate current knowledge microsites into UN Women Knowledge Hub. In close coordination with PPID units, consolidate all organizational knowledge in one place to ensure seamless user interaction with UN Women products. Lead the integration of all data portals into one data hub, using the UN Women Count/ Data Hub portal as the base. Connect UN Women websites at the global, regional and country level with the knowledge, data and transparency portals. Conduct technical training and support to different stakeholders across the organization to use UN Women digital platform. Supervise the work of vendors responsible for designing and implementing the digital consolidation plan.4. In partnership with the Governance Specialist and the IST Unit lead digital governance efforts with the aim of maintaining a cohesive global digital presence.
Provide strategic guidance on the creation and implementation of policies, procedures, standards and guidelines for UN Women's public facing digital presence.5. Lead the implementation and management of Google Marketing Platform ensuring alignment with organizational goals, Key tasks include:
Defining actionable KPIs in collaboration with the Communications team. Implementing Google Analytics 4 and upgrading to Google Analytics 360 for advanced insights. Managing marketing tags and tracking codes using Google Tag Manager. Analyzing audience behavior, content performance, and user journeys using integrated tools. Developing custom dashboards for real-time visualization of campaign metrics and insights. Oversee the proper implementation of M&E frameworks for the various projects and initiatives in the unit.6. The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organisation.
Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities:
The position will supervise a small team consisting of one staff and consultants.

Functional Competencies:
Expert level knowledge of major social media platforms and proven experience in strategic social media outreach at the international level. Strong team leadership skills, incl. track record of managing a global, hybrid team. Proven ability to develop and implement large-scale social media strategies and campaigns. Excellent writing and editing skills and demonstrated experience in social media content production. In-depth understanding of the integration of multimedia elements in social media content production. Strong editorial judgment, including ethical and political awareness. Advanced university degree in communication, management, digital media, or other related discipline. At least seven years of professional work experience in digital communications, digital product management or digital delivery and user experience, including five years in digital publishing and operations. Proven experience working with elements needed for creating and maintaining a web presence, such as web content management systems, hosting, web development, design, and user experience is required. Proven experience of working in the field of digital governance in a large, decentralized organization is required. Experience in teaching, training, or other capacity building activities is required. Experience working with technology risk management or compliance is, specifically in a humanitarian or not-for-profit environment is desirable. Proven record of accomplishment in delivery of complex projects in an online environment is desirable. Extensive experience with identifying problems before they arise and determining potential risk mitigation strategies is required. Strong ability to think strategically and to formulate strategy to enable broader organizational initiatives is required.Languages:
