About TDA:

The Day After is a Syrian-led organization that works for democratic transition in Syria. TDA works with its partners among Syrian CSOs and international human rights’ organizations to influence Syrian and non-Syrian stakeholders for the favor of the democratic transition and to keep transitional justice and accountability as a high priority during transition.

TDA will soon begin implementation of a new project, “Enhancing Civil Cohesion and Accountability (ECCA) aims to strengthen and stabilize civil society in Syria towards the goal of contributing to a society that is better equipped to address the challenges of transition, accountability, and reconciliation. ECCA will achieve this by empowering victims of human rights violations, strengthening the capacities of civil society and community-based organizations, engaging Syrian youth in civic participation, and creating opportunities for collaboration and dialogue between community members.

In this context, TDA seeks full-time consultant to fill the position of professional translator at its head office in Istanbul for a period of 12 months.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Translate written translation and submit translation as tasked.
  • Translate documents from Arabic to English and vice versa
  • Provide high quality translation of documents and publications, reflecting the meaning found in the original source language and rendering that meaning in the translated work
  • Ensure accuracy of terms and terminology used in documents
  • Ensure translation is written with style, correct grammar, and spelling
  • Compare the translation of a text with the original to verify the accuracy and completeness of the translated version and the suitability of the vocabulary and terminology used.
  • Complete the work withing the agreed timeline and submit the final translation in both soft and hard copy.
  • Proofread the translated materials before final submission to detect any error in spelling, punctuation, or grammar.
  • Incorporate any suggested changes to the translation.

Skills and Qualification:

  • A bachelor’s degree in translation, or relevant field.
  • Native Arabic Speaker
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in translation (Arabic/English) in the relevant areas is required.
  • Demonstrate good understanding of technical terms used in areas of human rights, legal, social, and political.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Syrian context and conflict.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in both Arabic and English
  • Extensive experience in translating legal/human rights or international law documentation and working experience as a translator.
