This position is located in the Office of the Chief of Mission Support within the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia (UNVMC), based in Bogotá, Colombia. The incumbent will work under the overall supervision of the Associate Field Translator. Duties and Responsibilities: • Assist with the translation of a variety of texts covering a broad range of subjects dealt with by the United Nations, i.e., political, social, legal, economic, financial, administrative, medical, and technical, meeting established workload and quality standards, while integrating a gender perspective, especially in relation to gender sensitive use of language. • Get familiar with existing UNVMC editorial guidelines, United Nations terminology and style and assist in its application to source and target texts. • Support in the collection of data associated with the linguistic services provided. • Maintain strict security and confidentiality of information. Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must meet one of the following requirements: a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent or higher such as Master’s degree or equivalent, Ph.D. or postgraduate degree); or, b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent). The Programme must be in languages (English and Spanish), translation, linguistics, or related field. Candidates are encouraged to highlight their specific skills and/or experience in their application. Applicants to the UN Internship Programs are not required to have professional work experience. However, your training, education, advanced course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your Internship. Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Teams) is required. Knowledge of, or hands on experience using standard computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools and data visualization/business intelligence platforms is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this Internship, excellent command of both Spanish and English is required.
