Programme description
The Peacekeeping Training Programme Unit (PTPU) offers a traineeship to university or postgraduate students. The traineeship is designed to allow the trainee to strengthen his or her knowledge and gain practical experience with the learning and training field, focusing on training to security sector actors.
Within the framework of UNITAR, the Division for Peace supports the establishment of peaceful, just and inclusive societies through enabling individuals, institutions and organizations to contribute meaningfully to sustainable peace. The Division provides a range of capacity-building solutions, including but not limited to training and facilitation, coaching and mentoring, e-learning, online courses and academic programmes, advocacy, and advisory. The division's thematic portfolio includes such areas as peace operations, peace-making and conflict prevention, counterterrorism and preventing/countering violent extremism, disarmament, demobilization and reintegration, weapons and ammunition management, youth, peace and security, women, peace and security, rule of law and other.
UNITAR PTPU is now accepting applications from qualified applicants interested in working for a period of 6 months on a full-time basis, home-based.
Responsibilities/description of professional services: Under the supervision of the Senior Specialist in the Pre-deployment Training and Advisory team (PDTA), the trainee will support with setting up of a training association, managing an online community of practice with trainers, implementing an ATS tool, and developing and implementing a system to certify trainers. In addition, the trainee will conduct desk studies to identify and review innovative capacity building and learning methodologies.
In collaboration with the supervisor, the trainee will develop a plan with tasks and learning objectives for the traineeship. The traineeship is intended to allow trainees to develop specific skills and competences.

The applicant has a background in one of the following fields:
The ideal candidate can demonstrate experience with online learning tools and application, and a strong interest in learning, training, community management and technological innovations for learning and training.
Skills required:
The applicant has understanding of learning processes, training and online learning. The applicant also has organizational skills, shows initiative and dedication, and demonstrates independence at work. He or she is a self-starter, out of the box thinker, and solution oriented. In addition, good communication skills (both written and oral) are essential in order to be able to work with various stakeholders from different cultural and professional backgrounds.
Motivation for continuous learning, including learning about community management and new IT tools and applications, is essential. Knowledge of using learning management systems (e.g. Moodle), ATS tools, social media and other applications is highly desirable.
Languages:
Proficiency in English AND French is essential; Spanish or another official UN language will be considered an asset.
