The Fiscal Affairs Department of the International Monetary Fund is seeking qualified experts to fill two contractual positions as Technical Assistance (TA) Advisors in the Tax Policy Division 1, based in Washington D.C. The appointment term would be for a period of two years, on a renewable basis, subject to satisfactory performance.

The selected candidates will participate in the division's delivery of technical assistance in tax policy to IMF member countries in Europe, Francophone Africa, Middle East and Central Asia, and are expected, after a time, to lead small teams of TA delivery. The selected candidates will also contribute to reviewing the tax policy content of IMF surveillance and lending programs, participate and lead analytical projects in their areas of expertise, and liaise with other institutions engaged in tax policy work. Overseas travel should be expected.

Qualifications:

Applicants should hold at least a master's degree or equivalent in economics, and at least four years of experience as tax policy experts in government, academia, or private consulting. They should have broad and in-depth knowledge in tax policy design and evaluation, including VAT and excise taxes, personal and business taxes, international taxation, and taxation of extractive industries. Practical experience in tax policy formulation for developing countries is desirable. Applicants should possess proven project management skills and the ability to work and manage multi-disciplinary teams, diplomatic skills to interact with senior government officials, and written and oral communication skills in English. A working knowledge of French or Arabic would be a plus.

This is two-year contractual appointment. Contractual appointments at the IMF are renewable for up to four years of cumulative contractual service, pending incumbent's performance, budget availability, and continuous business need.
