EpiC Project Description:

Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control (EpiC) is an eight-year global project funded by the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). EpiC is dedicated to achieving and maintaining HIV epidemic control. EpiC provides strategic technical assistance (TA) and direct service delivery (DSD) to break through barriers to 95-95-95 and promote self-reliant management of national HIV programs by improving HIV case-finding, prevention, and treatment programming. FHI 360 is seeking qualified candidates for the position of a Technical Advisor (Nurse).

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Participation in the workshops/conferences/trainings arranged in support of the Nursing Leadership initiative,
  • Support in conducting situational analysis activities in four selected provinces,
  • Participate in the NLI project as a beneficiary from beginning to conclusion.
  • Support engagements with the nursing officials at national, provincial and district Department of Health,
  • Support determination of the training needs among nursing professionals,
  • Documenting meeting outcomes and tracking action items for the project,
  • Contribute to design of the Nursing Leadership Development programme,
  • Contribute to the development of workshop material for training of nurse managers and educators on the leadership empowerment program by providing perspectives of the participants in the program,
  • Contribute to the development of a manual for nursing leadership development by providing participants perspective,
  • Contribute to reporting on key program deliverables, including, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as required,
  • Collaborating with other members of the project team to ensure that deliverables meet the needs of the scope of work,
  • Contributing to the overall technical and programmatic quality and outputs of the activity,
  • Contribute to progress check-ins on a fortnightly basis with AOR and POC for this activity
  • Developing, in collaboration with Nursing office at national/provincial/district, guidelines, tools, policies, and procedures that inform Nursing Leadership Initiative support,
  • Contribute to the writing of program outputs and outcomes
  • Write a case study by the end of the project on the development of the NLI in South Africa,
  • Carrying out all other duties as may be designated by the supervisor.

    Required Education, Experience/Skill and Competencies:

    • Degree/Diploma in Nursing Science with a post-graduate qualification in project management and/or public health,
    • Masters degree in nursing/public health/education,
    • 6+ years’ experience in the Non-governmental organisation space including support for the Department of Health.
    • Experience with PEPFAR funded organizations will be an added advantage,
    • Experience in supporting the Department of Health at facility, district, province or national level,
    • Experience in providing clinical nurse mentoring activities,
    • Experience with nursing support for disease outbreak management will be an added advantage,
    • Experience in quality improvement support will be an added advantage,
    • Experience with conducting and documenting qualitative/quantitative research,
    • Familiarity with the district and provincial Departments of Health, preferably experienced in stakeholder engagement,,
    • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills,
    • Good computer skills including word and excel,
    • Strong interpersonal communication skills, excellent public speaking abilities, strong written and verbal English skills,
    • Excellent organizational skills and detail-oriented,
    • Experience using Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint preferred,
    • Ability to analyze data, or interest in learning to analyze data is important,
    • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others,
    • Able to demonstrate the ability to respond with sensitivity to people of diverse cultures and various Lifestyles,
    • A valid driver’s license and own vehicle.
