    SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL (SI) is an international humanitarian aid association which, since more than 40 years, has been providing assistance to populations affected by armed conflicts and natural disasters by meeting their basic needs for food, water and shelter. Particularly committed to the fight against diseases linked to unsafe water, the leading cause of death in the world, SI's interventions provide expertise in the field of access to drinking water, sanitation and hygiene promotion, but also in the essential area of food security and livelihoods. Present in some twenty countries, the SI teams – 2500 people in total, made up of expatriates, national staff, permanent staff at HQ, and a few volunteers - intervene with professionalism and commitment while respecting cultural norms.

    ABOUT THE MISSION

  • With the outbreak of the conflict in April 2023 and forced evacuation of Khartoum and West Darfur (El Geneina), SI was the first international NGO to re-enter Darfur and resume its emergency response. SI is since working in West Darfur, Central Darfur, North Darfur, Gedaref et Khartoum, thanks to the support of SHF, CDCS, ECHO and BHA.
  • In February 2024, SI opened a base in North Darfur to provide emergency assistance to populations, as very few humanitarian organizations were operational in the state. Today, activities are being implementing in West Darfur, Central Darfur, North Darfur, Gedaref and Khartoum States across WASH, Shelter and NFI support, Food Security and Livelihood sectors.
  • As part of SI's strategy, the Mission portfolio evolves to include more sustainable activities including market strengthening, income-generation activities, etc. Faced with the food insecurity crisis, SI is also largely scaling-up its food assistance, mostly through cash and voucher modality.

    ABOUT THE JOB

    SIZING OF THE TEAM ON THE BASE / IN COORDINATION

  • The Coordination Office is comprising a Country Director, Deputy Country Director for Programs, WASH Coordinator, MEAL Coordinator, Emergency Coordinator, Consortium Coordinator, Finance Coordinator, Logistics Coordinator, HR Coordinator, Humanitarian and Access Coordinator.
    The Mission also have 3 Field Coordinator in Gedaref, Geneina and El Fasher including FSL Supervisor or FSL Project Manager.

    GENERAL OBJECTIVES

  • The FSL Coordinator, as technical advisor, contributes to the development of the programmatic strategy by proposing a sector-based strategy in the field of Food Security and Livelihood (FSL).
He/she specifically guarantees the quality and suitability of proposed technical approaches and ensures the appropriateness of FSL activities and general SI objectives to the needs of the local populations. He/she coordinates the project cycle and more particularly the operational monitoring of FSL programs implemented in the intervention country. He/she contributes to the process of capitalization and the improvement of Solidarités International methods and techniques in the field of FSL.

ISSUES AND SPECIFIC CHALLENGES

The main challenges:

New position in the mission Scale up of FSL programming in the mission in a context of impending famine. Access and security constraint in area of interventions

PRIORITIES ON THE 2-3 FIRST MONTHS

Support ongoing FSL activities implementation Support the scale up of FSL programming, in particular Food assistance, mostly through CVA modality. Formalise intervention methodologies by designing tools and SOPs to support implementation (geographical targeting, beneficiary registration, etc) Close monitoring of FSL projects and activities (monitoring of indicators, budget consumption, operational issues, etc.). FSL Cluster representation FSL Strategy development

SECURITY CONSTRAINTS

When obtaining visas for Sudan, SI will have to deal with numerous security constraints. Access is still under negotiation, and some areas are still closed. Travel in eastern Sudan is subject to numerous administrative impediments. In Darfur, the situation is highly unstable, with cross-border operations underway in Geneina. LIFE CONDITIONS The position is part of the Coordination team, located in Ndjamena, Chad. The post-holder will be living in a shared appartment, with electricity and internet 24h/24h. The living conditions in Ndjamena are good, with limited to no security constraints, access to various restaurants with diverstifed food, opportunities to socialize and to practice sports (badminton, volley ball, running, swimming pool, gym, cross-fit, tennis, yoga, etc.). During field visit in Sudan, the living conditions may vary but overall are quite good as well.

YOUR PROFILE EDUCATION

DIPLOMAS

University degree (Master’s Degree preferred) in a relevant field such as Agricultural Sciences, Nutrition, Food Security and Livelihoods.

EXPERIMENT IN THE HUMANITARIAN SECTOR

TECHNICAL SKILLS

Knowledge and experience of FSL projects implementation in emergency context. Overall humanitarian programs coordination. Knowledge of CASH programming, market analysis and projects to support market dynamics. Knowledge of livelihood restoration projects (agriculture, livestocks, IGAs) Knowledge of RRM programming (Rapid Response Mechanism).

SI WILL OFFER YOU

A salaried position:

According to experience, starting from EUR 2860 gross per month (2600 base salary + 10% annual leave allowance paid monthly) and a monthly Per Diem of USD 750.

SI also covers accommodation costs and travel expenses between the expatriate's country of origin and the place of assignment.

Breaks: During the assignment, a system of alternation between work and time off is implemented at the rate of 7 working days every three months (with a USD 850 break allowance, allocated by Sl). To these breaks periods, SI grants one (1) additional rest day per month worked.

Insurance package: Expatriates benefit from an insurance package which refunds all healthcare expenses (including medical and surgical expenses, dental care and ophthalmological expenses, repatriation) and a welfare system including war risks. Essential vaccination and antimalarial treatment costs are refunded.
