TERMS AND CONDITIONS
JOB TITLE: Special Advisor to Deputy Regional Director (Enabling Services)
TYPE AND LEVEL OF CONTRACT: Service Contract - SC9
Duration: One year (Renewable)
UNIT/DIVISON: Management
DUTY STATION: RBC - Cairo, Egypt
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
Operational
Support and advise the Deputy Regional Director (DRD) in the implementation of the sub-projects feeding into the different Transformation Pillars, and UN Reform initiatives and coordinating between the relevant HOUs and also with the COs when required.
Monitor the main success indicators for WFP operations in the region, particularly major emergencies, through risk management, HR capacity and capability, wellness, security, budget and pipeline, technology, financial and administrative capacity reports, dashboards, etc., and highlight issues for the DRD’s attention and resolution;
Accompany DRD on duty travel within the region or beyond when required and coordinate the organization of the DRD’s missions with designated focal points in WFP Country Offices as well as relevant counterparts in Operations Services
Accompany DRD to meetings within and outside the organization, ensuring that DRD has necessary briefing material, talking points, and updated and relevant agenda;
Stay abreast of WFP operations and conduct research where necessary, to contribute to scanning the important developments in the Technology sphere, Environmental or Financial developments;
Provide support to DRD Enabling Services communications and advocacy to RBC and MENA, through WFP Communities and other relevant channels;
Coordinate and manage preparations for RBC-hosted meetings, when required; Reporting and briefing
Assure the quality of briefing notes that are provided to the DRD;
Support and brief the DRD in meetings, workshops, and conferences and note for the record as required;
Draft talking points, briefings, speeches, PowerPoint presentations, and outcome reports for the DRD for internal and external meetings, conferences, and other high-level events;
Administrative
Help to manage the DRD’s time, calendar, and daily action follow-up required for the DRD
Perform other duties as required
Work closely with staff from all RBC units and undertake other duties not listed here as required.
DELIVERABLES BY THE END OF THE CONTRACT
Clear analysis and succinct, well-written reports on a range of issues, drafted from a range of sources
Assurance of fact-checked and comprehensive briefs for the DRD’s clearance
Ability to help prioritize and manage the overall DRD portfolio – to ensure that adequate support is provided up and down the office for the overall effectiveness of the DRD Office.
STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Economics, Commerce, Business Administration, Engineering, Legal or Accounting or other relevant field.
A master's degree will be a plus.
Experience:
At least 7 years of total experience is a must, including a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in providing support and advice to senior management teams.
Knowledge & Skills:
Ability to work independently or in an international team.
Good political awareness and judgment.
Strong analytical – reporting skills to compile, maintain, analyze, and prepare strong reports/dashboards to draw some (initial) conclusions and to help make informed decisions.
Ability to work under minimal supervision.
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with clients and provide client-oriented service.
Dynamic, versatile, and flexible working behavior.
Sensitivity to a multicultural environment, ability to work with different audiences, and a strong sense of discretion.
Demonstrates high levels of integrity, work ethic, and confidentiality.
Language:
Fluency in spoken and written English and Arabic is required.
