Your responsibilities

As a computing engineer in the ALICE Detector Control System (DCS) team, you will play a crucial role in the operation and development of DCS interfaces and detector frontend electronics framework (FRED) for the ALICE experiment. Collaborate closely with experts from the ALICE Collaboration and contribute to the seamless functionality of ALICE detectors.

Responsibilities:

Implement detector requirements and ensure robust maintenance of the FRED framework.Work on evolving tools and interfaces for data exchange with external systems.Collaborate with the ALICE DCS team and external partners to provide expertise to the detectors.Contribute to ongoing experiment operations, ensuring the reliability of the central system.Acquire new skills and receive training as needed during your fellowship.

Your profile

Skills and/or knowledge

Understanding of detector technologies and electronics fundamentalsProficiency in C++ and Python programmingFamiliarity with modern operating systems (Linux and Windows)Knowledge of software management tools like GITExperience with communication protocols (e.g., GRPC, 0MQ, DIM) is a plus.

Eligibility criteria:

You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.You have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Software engineering or Physics studies (or a related field) by the application deadline.Your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.Applicants without University degree are not eligible.Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

This position requires:

Work during nights, Sundays and official holidays.Work in Radiation Areas.Interventions in underground installations.Residence in the immediate vicinity of the Organization's installations.Work during nights, Sundays and official holidays, when required by the needs of the Organization.
