Work LocationCairo, Egypt Expected duration12 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesOrganizational Setting UN Habitat is the United Nations Agency for Human Settlements mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities and to foster collaboration between urban actors. Its aim is to create inclusive, resilient, and equitable urban spaces with the mission to improve the living conditions of people in urban areas to achieve sustainable development. Background UN Habitat in Egypt Established in 2007, UN-Habitat Egypt has managed to build a strong partnership with the government, civil society, donors and various stakeholders, while moving forward with our vision to pilot new planning approaches and techniques that can support a more sustainable urbanization process. UN-Habitat works closely with the Egyptian Government (GoE) and local stakeholders to ensure conscious support to national visions and priorities while advancing the alignment and progress towards organizational objectives and the UN-Habitat Domains of Change. The programme in Egypt is supporting the GoE towards more effective implementation of the New Urban Agenda (NUA), by linking urbanization to development, to capture the positive values and wealth created by the urbanization process. UN-Habitat Egypt currently has three sub-programmes; Urban Development, Local Development & Urban Economy Policies, and Basic Services and Climate Change. Reporting Line Under the overall guidance and direct supervision of the UN-Habitat Country Programme Manager – Egypt Office. Duties and responsibilities 1. Social Media Strategy & Planning o Develop and implement a 12-month social media strategy aligned with UN-Habitat’s goals and objectives for the next 4 quarters. o Provide a monthly content calendar covering Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, and the UN-Habitat website. o Identify and integrate relevant global/regional and other sister UN agencies in Egypt with UN-Habitat social media campaigns. o Attend UNCG meetings with the appointed communications focal point to align with the overall objectives of the UNCT/UNCG. 2. Content Creation & Management o Develop engaging, high-quality content including posts, articles, infographics, and videos relating to UN-Habitat’s Egypt current activities and informative content about UN-H EG mandate. o Design visual assets in line with UN Habitat branding guidelines, social media guidelines, storytelling guidelines and media guidelines that are made available by the country office. o Optimize post frequency and scheduling for maximum reach. o Manage social media interactions (respond to queries, moderate discussions, etc.) if and when needed. 3. Website Content Support o Regularly update the UN-Habitat Egypt webpage with project updates, event summaries, and success stories in collaboration with the communications focal point. o Write impact stories to be shared on UN-Habitat’s website when due. 4. Social Media Analytics & Reporting o Track and analyze performance metrics (reach, engagement, follower growth, etc.). o Provide a monthly report with insights, trends, recommendations and way forward. 5. Media Buying & Paid Promotion o Develop and implement a media buying strategy to enhance visibility and engagement. o Identify key opportunities for paid social media campaigns (e.g., boosting posts, sponsored content, event promotions). o Allocate budget effectively across platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn) for maximum reach and impact. o Monitor and optimize ad performance, adjusting targeting and messaging as needed. o Provide a monthly report on paid campaign performance with insights and recommendations. 6. Capacity Building & Knowledge Transfer o Conduct 1-2 training sessions for existing staff on best practices in social media management. o Develop a social media management guide for internal use. 7. Event Promotion & Partnership Engagement o Develop and execute digital campaigns for key events, partnerships, and initiatives. o Engage with relevant development partners, donors, and stakeholders through social media. Qualifications/special skills• Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in the field of in Business Administration, Mass Communication, Visual Communications, Fine Arts or a related field is required is required. A first-level university degree in combination with additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree • 2 years of relevant experience in the field of Business Administration, Marketing, or Mass Communication first degree holders is required and no experience required for advanced university degree holders. • Previous experience in digital marketing and designing social media platforms is required. • Experience working on projects related to urban development, culture, or community engagement is desirable. • Previous experience with international organizations and the UN system is desirable.
