Organizational Setting

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to achieve food security and nutrition for all. With presently 194 member states, and working in more than 130 countries worldwide, including Namibia. FAO contributes to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through the FAO Strategic Framework by supporting the transformation to MORE efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems, for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, leaving no one behind.

The aim of the FAO Country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes, and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to develop the agricultural, fisheries, and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner. FAO Country Office activities include the design and implementation of country-specific field programs, liaison with local donors' representatives, and active outreach activities related to FAO initiatives.

Reporting Lines

Under the overall supervision of FAO Representative in Namibia, the day-to-day supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative (Programme), the Senior Project Assistant will carry out the following tasks:

Technical Focus

The Senior Project Assistant will be expected to work closely with the Programme Team and support effective project design, planning, and implementation to achieve the project’s outcomes. He/she will facilitate and provide support in the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF).

Tasks and responsibilities

•     Working in close collaboration with the Programme Team, support effective project design, planning, and implementation for the achievement of projects’ results.
•     Support effective project administration, financial and procurement management for the achievement of projects’ results.
•     Organize and facilitate consultative meetings with partners and key national and international stakeholders in the public and private sectors.
•     Support the production of required projects reports and or written outputs in accordance with FAO and / or donor requirements or procedures, and ensure the accuracy and timely submission of these reports.
•     Support with the creation of schedules for project activities indicated in the annual work plans to ensure all activities are completed on time, ensuring timely implementation of all activities while adhering to FAO rules and regulations.
•     Establish and/or strengthen linkages with FAO’s partners on the national landscape to support effective partnership and resource mobilization.
•     Facilitating support in the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF).
•     Assist in project identification by preparing supporting documentation for project concept notes and project document formulation in close coordination with the Country Programme team.
•     Assist and participate in projects implementation and monitoring by preparing the work plans and budgets.
•     Assist in maintaining logs, filing documents, and updating records in the prescribed format for future reference.
•     Support the execution of project tasks to ensure compliance with project plans and specifications.
•     Contribute to regular (at least monthly) and quality information (images and text), feeding the validated communication plan implementation.
•     Support knowledge building and knowledge sharing relevant to the assigned project(s).
•     Perform any other duties as required.

 

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements
   
•     Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Forestry, or any related field of study. 
•     Minimum of 4 years of working experience. 
•     Working knowledge (level C) of English.
•     Namibian nationality
