IUCN’s Climate Change Team is part of the Centre for Finance and Economy. This Centre focuses on building the case and establishing credible pathways to demonstrate and implement changes in financial systems to mobilise and direct the resources required to achieve global targets on biodiversity and climate change. The Global Fund for Ecosystem-based Adaptation (Global EbA Fund), implemented by IUCN and UNEP with funding from the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU), is a funding mechanism for supporting innovative approaches to strengthen the enabling environment for the implementation of Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA). By supporting catalytic initiatives, the Fund seeks to overcome barriers to scaling EbA, address knowledge gaps, pilot innovative EbA approaches, engage in strategic EbA policy mainstreaming, and incentivise innovative finance mechanisms and private sector EbA investment.
We are looking for you as our new Senior Programme Officer, Climate (Fund Manager – Global EbA Fund, Technical Coordination & Implementation). You will work within the Climate Change team in tasks related to the implementation of the Global EbA Fund. Working in close collaboration with the Global EbA Fund Secretariat team as well as project partners, you will oversee the day-to-day management of grantees to ensure the effective implementation of grants. You will be further responsible for coordination and knowledge management across the grantee portfolio, including collection, evaluation, and synthesis of project knowledge. You will also be responsible for the coordination of knowledge sharing, lessons learned and documentation of success factors for EbA drawing from project experiences across the Global EbA Fund portfolio. JOB DESCRIPTION • You will be responsible for coordination of successful grantees of the Global EbA Fund across Asia-Pacific, Africa, and Latin America.
• Provide and facilitate technical assistance to grantees for effective EbA grants implementation as and when required;
• Collection and consolidation of grantee project reports to provide input and support to the Global EbA Fund technical semi-annual and annual donor reports and internal IUCN programme reporting;
• Coordinate production of bi-annual newsletter of project highlights from grantees;
• Extract information across grantee projects into broader Fund communications and coordination and to support the work to influence global policy processes (UNFCCC, UNCBD, UNCCD, etc)
• Design approaches, methods and activities to implement the Global EbA Fund capacity building strategy such as: workshops, webinars, and individual mentoring;
• Facilitate knowledge exchanges on lessons learned on EbA to support grantees in effective implementation of projects;
• Provide technical input into the development of EbA knowledge products including technical/position papers, especially based on experiences and learning from grants implementation processes;
• Carry out any other relevant task as assigned by, and agreed with, the line manager.
Duty Station: Washington, DC USA however, there is a possibility that this position might be hosted from Bonn, Germany OR Quito, Ecuador OR San Jose, Costa Rica.
REQUIREMENTS • You have a graduate degree in natural resources management, geography, international development, social sciences or environmental policy and are highly motivated to learn and develop new skills.
• With more than 7 years of work experience in ecosystem based-adaptation, climate change policy, project management, monitoring & evaluation of adaptation projects and/or environmental science, you possess excellent organizational, administrative and reporting skills.
• To work independently, meet tight deadlines without compromising the quality of outputs and bring in own ideas are as much part of your characteristics as your excellent interpersonal skills: you work harmoniously as part of a team in a multi-cultural environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
• Familiarity with global policy processes relevant to EbA/ NbS for adaptation.
• English is (almost) your native language and, desirably, you can keep up a conversation in French and/or Spanish. Combine this with excellent editing skills and we would very much like to hear from you! SALARY The gross annual salary for this position is between USD 99'160 and USD 123'950. While this is an indicative amount effective as of the current date, changes may occur as per IUCN's compensation practices without prior notice. The same applies to other organisations hosted by IUCN.
