Unit Context
The ITS Operations Products unit (ITSOP) enables digital enablement of the Bank's business processes through a modern, flexible, and user-friendly digital platform that integrates and optimizes critical functions for thousands of front-line staff. It also drives the delivery of AI-powered business solutions to support business priorities and accelerate data-driven decision-making across the institution.
The World Bank is seeking a Senior Solutions Architect to join its Information Technology Solutions (ITS) department, in Chennai, India. Senior Solutions Architects typically works on multiple projects in the World Bank Operations portfolio, ensuring that the technical solutions supporting the unit’s initiatives are successfully delivered to Operations Staff. He/she will provide technical leadership and guidance for complex projects that require knowledge of the technology domain and business segments.
From a work program perspective, he/she will be responsible for solution delivery responsibilities, providing guidance and work program oversight to a team of staff and a large team of developers from vendors located on-premises and off-shore to ensure effective and efficient delivery of solutions.
From a technical perspective, he/she will be responsible for leading the design and modeling of the application and data architecture of the related solutions, component identification, quality reviews and adherence to enterprise standards, and guidelines.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to the following:
- Assume role of Technical Lead contributing to the implementation, maintenance, and operation of business-critical applications supporting the World Bank’s Operations lines of business. This includes a suite of applications in the operations eco-systems related to Operations Workspace, Environmental and Social Management Systems, Fiduciary
- Architect process integrations with applications and data platforms in other lines of business-like loan systems loans system with World Bank Financing and Accounting (WFA), Trust Fund systems with Development Finance (DFi), Board Operations System (BOS) and The Budget, Performance Review & Strategic Planning (BPS) using both custom and industry leading tools.
- Architect and lead the implementation of workflow patterns supporting various applications in the unit.
- Lead implementation of container-based document management systems supporting all applications within the department
- Provide guidance to and work with key stakeholders to support the discussion on the technical features of the digital solution, including ensuring the readiness of each release.
- Apply technical and business knowledge to architect and supervise the implementation of solutions.
- Effectively document and communicate technical analyses, designs, and specifications.
- Work with the Information Security Team to satisfy its requirements/recommendations and support related security testing.
- Identifies and evaluates overall systemic issues and analyzes complex issues. Apply scientific principles and best practices to design, develop, and support IT products, services, and solutions ensuring efficiency, scalability, and reliability.
- Technical Architecture - Definition of principles that guide technology decisions, Clear relationship between enterprise business context (industry and market trends) and specified technology and alignment with EA standards.
- Solution Architecture - Definition of principles to guide solution decisions to support the evolution of the product portfolio from current state to future state. Develop reusable patterns and components in support of agile delivery.
- Coordinate with vendors and consultants, overseeing their deliverables to ensure that they satisfy requirements and meet World Bank standards.
- Coordinate with project team members. Mentor junior staff, assist with IT resource management.
Selection Criteria
* Master’s degree in computer science with 8 years relevant experience or bachelor’s degree in computer science with a minimum of 10 years relevant experience.
* Proven leadership in managing large, complex deliverables, with a minimum of 7 years of experience leading large teams of developers (both onsite and offshore) and taking full responsibility for the end-to-end delivery of technical solutions in environments with shifting priorities, multi-layered governance structures, complex IT landscapes, and diverse client bases.
* Hands-on technical expertise, with demonstrated ability to step into development or troubleshooting roles when needed, ensuring project milestones are met without delays, particularly in high-pressure or resource-constrained scenarios.
* A solid understanding of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) principles, design patterns including Micro Services, Cloud technologies and tools such as Microsoft Data verse, Azure/AWS SAAS/PAAS services, Containers, API gateways
* Minimum of 7 years of experience in developing and maintaining large-scale solutions in Microsoft .NET Framework including C#.
* At least 5 years of experience in architecting Microsoft Dynamics based solution and integrations with SharePoint Online and other Azure resources as well as on-prem systems.
* Hands-on expertise in custom development with .NET/C# to extend functionalities in Microsoft Dynamics. Programming experience in ASP.NET/C#, AngularJS, HTML, CSS and RESTful APIs.
* Strong Experience with authenticating and authorizing apps using Azure AD, including B2B and B2E scenarios
* Thorough exposure of the core features of Microsoft Dynamics including security, data modelling, reporting, custom actions, workflows etc.
* Hands on experience in developing and deploying solutions in Azure (WebApp, Functions, KeyVault, AppInsights) etc.
* Proven experience in maintaining development best practices, including version control (using TFS), logging and monitoring (using Splunk, AppInsights). Hands-on experience in DevOps.
* A good understanding of Azure data platform including Azure Data Lake, Data Warehouse, Power BI and ETL tools like Azure Data Factory, Informatica is a plus.
* Experience in designing, developing, and deploying AI models, including both traditional machine learning and advanced deep learning approaches is a big plus. Proficiency with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems and integrating large language models with domain-specific data sources, Hands-on expertise in Agentic AI frameworks, including the orchestration and deployment of autonomous, goal-driven agents in enterprise environments is a big plus.
