- Provision of high-quality economic analysis and advice to UNDP to strengthen programme focus and implementation
- Provision of policy advice to national partners in support of the implementation of Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development, and the introduction of sustainable and inclusive economic policies.
- Advocacy, and partner engagement to support UNDP’s institutional positioning and advance its mandate
- Review, compile, and analyses economic data relevant to country’s development assets, opportunities and constraints, and prepare top quality relevant socio-economic notes and reports.
- Utilize insights gained from economic analysis, to advise on the development and implementation of CCAs, UNSCDFs and CPDs.
- Provide analysis and research in priority thematic areas at the country level, including within the framework of the response to the impact of the Syria crisis, through the publication of policy briefs or other analytical outputs.
- Provide substantive inputs to programme formulation and pipeline development, in close partnership with the Programme team.
- Support the development of models for innovative financing to advance the SDGs and explore opportunities for leveraging investments from private sector for UNDP programmes.
- Facilitate evidence-based dialogue on critical issues related to sustainable development with government, development partners, civil society, and the private sector.
- Provides high-quality development advice to the RR in policy dialogues with government, UN System and other strategic partners on economic issues, most notably in relation to inclusive growth, sustainability, inequalities and achievement of the SDGs.
- Contributes to alternative policy advice through the preparation, launch and follow-up of national HDRs and/or other development reports and policy briefs.
- Support the formulation of SDG-based policies and plans, including appropriate macroeconomic, fiscal and medium-term expenditure frameworks.
- Ensure monitoring and reporting of progress related to SDGs and other relevant frameworks.
- Ensure policy and programmatic advice integrates gender considerations and the principle of leave no one behind.
- Advocate for Agenda 2030 (SDGs), human development and equitable economic growth by participating in relevant meetings, forums, and conferences.
- Develop and/or strengthen partnerships with UN agencies, IFIs, bilateral development agencies, private sector entities, and civil society, to support the advancement of Agenda 2030.
- Represent UNDP Lebanon in relevant forums, conferences, or workshops, including to present research or programmatic results.
- Contribute to national, regional, and global knowledge networks and communities of practice.
- Performs analysis of socio-economic situations and scenarios, and contributes to the formulation of institutional responses
- Contributes to the elaboration of advocacy strategies by identifying and prioritizing audiences and communication means
- Effectively networks with partners seizing opportunities to build strategic alliances relevant to UN’s mandate and strategic agenda
- Sensitizes UN Partners, donors and other international organizations to the UN strategic agenda, identifying areas for joint efforts
- Develops positive ties with civil society to build/strengthen UN’s mandate
- Serves as internal consultant in the area of macro-economics and shares knowledge with staff
- Keeps abreast of new developments in area of economic policy and job knowledge and seeks to develop him/herself professionally
- Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of information technology and applies it in work assignments
- Reviews documents and materials intended for use within and outside the organization in order to ensure consistency and validity of messages
- Creates and cultivates networks of partners to promote UNDP’s image
- Conducts assessments of activities to improve impact and effectiveness
- Leverages multi-disciplinary, institutional knowledge and experience of other countries and regions to promote UN’s development agenda.
- Promotes ethics and integrity.
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Economics, Development Economics, Political Economy or related fields. PhD is a plus.
- 11 years with a Bachelor’s degree, or 8 years of relevant experience with a Master’s degree at the national or international level.
- Extensive experience in economic and statistical research/analysis and the provision of policy advice targeting governments and other national stakeholders.
- Proven understanding of sustainable development, Agenda 2030, and related strategies for achieving the SDGs.
- Previous experience in development planning and/or programming.
- Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages, experience in handling of web-based management systems and advanced programmes for statistical analysis of data.
- Full Fluency in English and Arabic.
