Senior Communication Officer\n\n

The Senior Communications Officer will play a critical role in\nadvancing the mission and visibility of AWARD. This position is responsible for\ndeveloping, executing, and evaluating communications strategies and initiatives\nacross various platforms, ensuring alignment with the organization's goals. The\nSenior Communications Officer will collaborate with internal teams,\nstakeholders, and media to promote our work, build partnerships, and engage our\naudience.\n\n

Primary Duties and Responsibilities\n\n

1. Strategic\nCommunications Leadership:\n\n

  • Lead the development and execution of\nintegrated communications strategies to support communication's goals and\nensure alignment with AWARD's goals and objectives.\n\n
    • Oversee communications plans for key\nprojects and advise senior leadership on key messaging, and public relations\nefforts.\n\n
      • Led the production of strategic\nreports such as updates for the Steering Committee, donor reports among others.\n\n
        • Oversee the contracting of\ncommunications consultants and support the monitoring of communications budget\nand other resources.\n\n

          2.      \nContent\nCreation and Management:\n\n

          • \n
          • Led the development and production of\n high-quality content including news articles, blog posts, newsletters,\n press releases, reports, audio visuals and other lateral materials.\n
          • Ensure the content is\n customized for publication and dissemination across different AWARD's\n platforms including the website (s), social media, and other in-person\n platforms.\n
          • Coordinate production\n of quarterly electronic newsletters and maintain mailing lists.\n
          • Ensure that all\n communications materials are consistent with the organization's branding\n and marking guidelines.\n
          • Manage content calendars and coordinate the\n timely delivery of communications across various platforms.\n\n\n\n\n

            3.  Media\nOutreach:\n\n\n\n

            • Build and maintain relationships with journalists,\nmedia agencies and outlets.\n\n
              • Draft press materials, including press releases,\nstatements, and op-eds, and manage media outreach and inquiries.\n\n
                • Track media mentions and reach\n\n
                  • Position the organization as a thought leader by\nsecuring media placements and interviews.\n\n

                    4.      Events\nmanagement:\n\n

                    • Coordinate the\nconceptualization and delivery of key stakeholder engagements events including\nside events at major conferences, and other notable events such as\ncommemoration of International Women's Day among others.\n\n
                      • Led production of event\noutputs such as concept notes, guest lists, invitation letters and event\nreports.\n\n
                        • Represent the organization\nat external events as needed.\n\n

                          5.      \nDigital and Social Media Strategy:\n\n

                          • Oversee development and\nimplementation of digital communications strategies, including website updates,\nemail marketing campaigns, and social media engagement.\n\n
                            • Oversee website management\nincluding timely website review and frequent updates as required.\n\n
                              • Track the online footprint\nand media mentions of AWARD and amplify these where appropriate.\n\n
                                • Analyze and report on\ndigital performance and metrics to optimize communication strategies.\n\n

                                  6.      \nOther Duties & Responsibilities:\n\n

                                  • Oversee the communications'\nsubscriptions to various platforms include graphic design applications,\nnewsletter management platforms, digital tracking among others.\n\n
                                    • Support the maintenance of\nan inventory of AWARD's information, education and communication materials and\ncommunication assets/equipment.\n\n

                                      Requirements\n\n

                                      • A master's degree in journalism, public relations,\ncommunications, or related field, preferably within agricultural research and\ndevelopment and non-profit sector.\n\n
                                        • At least ten years' relevant professional experience\nin a communications position including at least 2 years in a senior or\nleadership role.\n\n
                                          • Proven track record of creating and executing\ncommunications strategies that increase visibility and engagement.\n\n

                                             Personal attributes and Competencies\n\n

                                            • Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal\ncommunication skills with demonstrated experience publishing different written\noutputs.\n\n
                                              • Strong understanding of digital platforms, social\nmedia, and web content management.\n\n
                                                • Ability to work effectively under pressure and\nmanage multiple projects simultaneously.\n\n
                                                  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to\ncollaborate across diverse teams.\n\n
                                                    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality\nand accuracy in all communications.\n\n
                                                      • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, InDesign,\nIllustrator, Photoshop (the whole Adobe suite).\n\n
                                                        • Direct, demonstrated experience with and knowledge\nof content management systems [mainly Drupal and WordPress] and online\nnewsletter management.
                                                        • Displays the highest standards of personal integrity.\n\n\n

                                                          Terms and conditions\n\n

                                                          • This is a Locally Recruited Staff (LRS) position.\nICRAF offers competitive remuneration in local currency, commensurate with\nskills and experience. \n\n
                                                            • The appointment will be for a period of 2\nyears, inclusive of a 6-month probationary\nperiod, with the possibility of extension contingent upon performance,\ncontinued relevance of the position and available resources. 
                                                            • The duty station will be in Nairobi,\nKenya.\n\n\n\n\n\n
