Introduction
The mission of the Green Climate Fund is to assist developing countries to respond to climate change while bringing prosperity to their people.

Established in 2010, the GCF invests in transformational climate projects in the developing world. The Fund makes an ambitious contribution to global climate action and channels significant financial resources into developing countries to help build low-emission and climate-resilient societies. It is country-driven and undertakes actions that reflect the circumstances of each country concerned and its national aspirations. The GCF is a key enabler of the 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

Since its establishment, the GCF has approved 243 projects in 129 countries and has committed USD 13.5 billion in climate finance. In addition, it has built up an extensive program to support developing countries to identify their needs, in particular, those who are most vulnerable to climate change impacts.

Position Objective
GCF is seeking a resource mobilization specialist (North America) to work within its Division of External Affairs. The resource mobilization specialist will be responsible for developing relations with contributors within the region, with particular focus upon the United States and Canada, and for nurturing relations with existing contributors of GCF as needed. The resource mobilization specialist will coordinate relationship building with key interlocutors for the indicated as well as potential contributor countries. The specialist will create and maintain relationship mapping. In relation to the indicated contributors, specialist`s activities will increase the transparency of GCF activities, foster accountability for the use of public resources, raise awareness about GCF activities including the communication of GCF’s strategy and results, and contribute to securing resources for the fund.

Purpose

  • Lead on the development of US and Canada contributor engagement strategies and action plans, to facilitate accountability for use of public funds and future resource mobilization.
  • Lead the work to establish Group of Friends for GCF in the US.
  • Undertake analysis of political contexts and based upon this design opportunities for GCF to develop strategic relations with key interlocutors within the indicated contributor and potential contributor countries in the region.

    Engagement

    • Build and maintain sound, working relationship with existing contributors and other relevant stakeholders to strengthen and broaden the contributor base of the GCF;
    • Engage with governments, leaders, civil society and influencers within contributor countries to build awareness of GCF’s role and its added value.
    • Conduct high-level engagement between GCF’s senior management and the contributor countries including regular bilateral meetings.
    • Network with existing and potential contributors by participating in relevant forums and events to strengthen GCF`s global presence and advocate for GCF.

      Delivery

      • Implement contributor relationship strategy and its action plan, including mapping of relationships within GCF’s CRM system.
      • Reporting on GCF strategies, policies, activities, and results to contributors.
      • Undertake other resource mobilization and outreach tasks as needed.

        Requirements (Education, experience, technical competencies required of the job)

        • Minimum of 9 years of professional experience in international public affairs related to climate, environment and / or international development, including experience working with international institutions (e.g., UN System); Demonstrated direct experience engaging with or working within the US & Canada governments and strong knowledge of the political contexts and stakeholders;
        • Ability to work with external partners, represent an institution, and display balanced judgment;
        • Ability to plan/organize own work and that of others and to contribute to a harmonious and empowering team environment;
        • Impeccable interpersonal skills, exceptional analytical skills, and cultural sensitivity;
        • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English required.
