Research Trainee (Adv#56/2025)

Environmental Health and WASH Research Group under the Health Systems and Population Studies Division has focused on determining and mitigating environmental pollution, evaluating WASH strategies for improved health, and generating evidence to understand the extent of environmental pollution and contamination in low-resource settings.

Key responsibilities:

The Research Trainee reports to the Principal Investigator(s) and will be required to prepare research concepts and protocols; plan, organize and direct implementation of research activities; analyze data and write manuscripts; provide leadership role, negotiate with key stakeholders for field management and give relevant input in ongoing project operation to support research studies within the guidelines of project-specific research procedures and organizational values and guidelines. S/he will be involved in -

Conduct literature review, analyze data and draw scientific inferences; Create a detailed research design and methodology to achieve the study objectives; Estimate requirements for financial and non-financial resources based on research methodology; Draft concept notes, protocols, reports and manuscripts; Prepare and deliver presentations; Support in project coordination and implementation; Assist in budgeting and financial management; Circulate new protocol drafts internally and externally, seek feedback and modify accordingly; Coordinate with Research Administration (RA) for approvals for research-related activities; Monitor and coordinate the project-related activities; Conduct periodic field visits for coordination and mitigating operational challenges and work with PI in cost-tracking activities; Prepare presentation slides and presentations in different scientific forums; Write study reports and articles for peer-reviewed journals; Conduct peer reviews of manuscripts of other researchers to support scientific manuscript creation while developing one’s scientific writing abilities.


Required Qualifications and Experience:

Young, bright individuals who meet the following criteria and aspire to develop their careers as public health researchers in the research-based environment at icddr,b are encouraged to apply.

MBBS with MPH from a reputed institute with excellent academic records (Please mention the percentage of marks/CGPA in your application). Outstanding academic results (at least 3.5 out of 4 scales both in Bachelor and Master) from reputed universities enlisted by the University Grant Commission of Bangladesh (UGC) At least 2 years of experience in public health in the domain of environmental health with strong interpersonal and excellent communication and writing skills in English. Degree or training on advanced biostatistics (Stata/ R) is preferred; Specific research experience in lead and heavy metal related areas will be given preference; Must have strong critical thinking skills, ability to identify substantive problems that threaten the research activities and the creative capacity to resolve these problems. S/he should be proactive, dynamic, and capable of working independently. Candidates who demonstrate exceptional research skills will be given priority.

Location: Dhaka.

Contract Type and Duration:

Research traineeship basis; duration will be 1 year with a possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and performance.

Stipend & Benefits:

Tk. 78,350/- per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances; The progress of the Research Trainee will be monitored and evaluated. On successful completion of training and final evaluation, the Trainee will be awarded certificates; Income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen;

Prospects:

After completing at least one (one) year of Traineeship, Trainees will be eligible to apply for any other suitable posts against icddr,b vacancy announcements. However, such posts are not guaranteed. The selected Trainee will not be eligible for any other Traineeship program at the Centre.
