Background
The candidate will be part of the Registration Unit in the urban Protection team of MCO Thailand, under the overall supervision of the Protection Officer (REG/RSD) and direct supervision of the Associate Operational Data Management Officer (NOB). The Registration and Reception Team at MCO Thailand is fulfilling multiple tasks. The duties and responsibilities of the intern will be prioritized in line with the team’s targets by the Registration Team Lead and the Protection Officer. The intern will cooperate with staff across the office and gain knowledge and experience in managing mandate refugee operations and urban refugee situations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Main duties will include:
1. To collect and draft input for the development of naming conventions and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for efiling, assist with the cataloguing of files and boxes to clear the external storage and other clean-up needs for physical files.
2. To assist with preparing electronic files, including management of intake, scan and translation of documents, ensuring creation of electronic files, in line with naming conventions.
3. To assist Staff to organize and coordinate with interpreters in the team in terms of interview scheduling, translation of claim, transcription of protection/RSD interview.
4. To assist Staff to receive Refugee/Asylum seekers at the UNESCAP Reception and receive and respond to phone calls, provide basic counselling, refer cases, and enter data into the database system, in line with relevant SOPs.
5. To assist staff with printing and distribution of UNHCR cards.
6. To perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Essential minimum qualifications and professional experience required :
In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
• The candidate must be a recent graduate (those persons who completed their studies within one year of applying) or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO. The candidate must have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field of Computer Science, Law (LLB, LLM), Political Science, Social Science or relevant of interest to the work of the Organization.
• Previous experience in working with people from different cultural and social backgrounds is an advantage.
• Excellent knowledge of English and Thai (drafting and oral skills). Knowledge of other UN language is desirable.
