Organizational Setting
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) received funds from The Government of the Republic of Italy, through the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS),) to implement the Integrated Agricultural Development Programme (ProDAI) of the Beira Corridor. The overall objective is to reduce poverty and improve food and nutrition security through diversified, innovative, efficient, inclusive, and sustainable food systems transformation.
The project aims to offer production and value chain solutions to smallholder farmers in the Beira Corridor and encourages a gradual shift from subsistence to business–oriented production to increase farmers’ income. This is achieved by improving farm micro-investments, production and post-production management and adherence to good agriculture practices and standards in three districts of Manica Province – namely Báruè, Sussundenga and Manica.
To this end, FAO is recruiting a Provincial M&E Specialist to support the implementation and delivery ProDAI results in the project area. This position is based in Chimoio, Manica province with regular travel to the project implementation sites.
Reporting Lines
Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Mozambique, with the direct supervision of the Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist based in Maputo, the incumbent main responsibility is monitoring and evaluation of the project activities in the assigned geographical area.
Technical Focus
Result-based monitoring and evaluation, documentation, communications and visibility, reporting.
Tasks and responsibilities
• Assist in developing periodic M&E plans and implementing regular M&E activities, database management, and reporting.
• Undertake regular visits to the project sites to ensure adequate implementation of activities.
• Actively oversee high quality and desegregated data collection, collation, storage, analysis, and reporting.
• Identify needs and provide training and mentoring to partners and staff to ensure the implementation of strong M&E systems.
• Assist field technicians as needed in daily monitoring and data collection and contribute to their training.
• Ensure the timely delivery of quality reports and other deliverables related to M&E and performance management.
• Actively participate in impact evaluation activities through ensuring compliance with research and data collection protocols.
• Support in identification and documentation of project success stories.
• Collect communications material (photos, videos, statements) in the field and submit to the C&V specialist.
• Serve as the primary focal point for all Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) matters at the Chimoio Hub.
• Perform any other duty as required.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
• University degree in Agricultural Economics, Agriculture, or any other related discipline
• 3 years of relevant experience in collecting and analysing data and generating sound reports
• Working knowledge of English and Portuguese

• Practical knowledge of data collection software (e.g.: Kobo Toolbox, surveyCTO, ODK)

• Proficient in using statistical software packages for data analysis (SPSS, Stata, InfoStat, etc.)
• Skilled in using GIS applications (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) for mapping, spatial data analysis, and supporting monitoring and evaluation processes
Training & Communication
• Experienced in conducting training for project staff with diverse backgrounds

• Experienced in capturing high-quality photographs and producing short videos
Reporting & Office Skills
• Competent in using standard office software, such as MS Office (Windows, Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.)
