ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
This position will be based in Colombo, Sri Lanka and the position holder will report to the Head of Research, Assessment and Monitoring (RAM) Unit. Job holders operate independently and are involved in operational activities and related analytical work.
JOB PURURPOSE
To contribute to the VAM evidence base that supports food security and nutrition policies and programmes (e.g. needs assessment and situation analyses, programme design, targeting, cost effectiveness, and operational
efficiency).
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive, within delegated authority):
Support WFP Sri Lanka’s efforts to build the capacities of the national government and other relevant stakeholders to develop food security monitoring systems that effectively inform national food security policies and strategies.
Contribute to the development of VAM activities, ensuring alignment with broader WFP policies and guidance. This includes food security and vulnerability assessments, economic analysis, and climate analysis.
Conduct regular food security and vulnerability assessments, including emergency assessments, by carrying out survey design, preparation of digital data collection tools, fieldwork plans, training, monitoring, and quality control.
Conduct statistical analysis of primary and secondary data sources and support the preparation of reports and other analytical products to contribute to evidence generation efforts.
Create and maintain databases and data repositories to archive primary and secondary data, including the management of corporate databases.
Represent WFP Sri Lanka in relevant forums, meetings, and workshops to advocate for the continued generation of food security-related evidence in the country.
Support the capacity-building of WFP staff, partners, and the national government to conduct vulnerability analysis that effectively informs preparedness and response activities.
Provide support to relevant partners focusing on food security and nutrition issues to enable the sharing of experiences, lessons learned, and best practices.
Guide and supervise junior staff, acting as a point of reference and supporting them with analysis and queries.
Act in an assigned emergency response capacity as required to meet emergency food assistance needs.
Other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Experience:
At least 01 year of relevant experience in the similar capacity after completing postgraduate professional qualification Masters.
Or 05 years of experience in the field of VAM with Bachelors Degree in the similar capacity.
Education: Advanced University degree in Economics, Food Security, Statistics, Data Science, Public Health/Nutrition, Geography or other related field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses.
Language: Fluency (level C) in English language. And, fluency (level C) in Sinhala/Tamil
DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE
Demonstrated proficiency in the use of several statistical tools and methods for food security analysis.
Developed practical expertise in food security analysis and mapping by participating in multiple assessments in countries, including the design, data collection and analysis.
Demonstrated technical knowledge and understanding of WFP vulnerability mapping systems and emergency assessment standards.
