Background
UNDP internship programme offers an outstanding graduate-level student the opportunity to acquire direct exposure to UNDP's work with the objective of deepening his/her knowledge and understanding of UNDP’s goals, principles, and activities. It is designed to complement development-oriented studies with practical experience in various professional areas.

UNDP activities are based on the premise of embracing diversity and inclusion. This premise is fundamental for the professional enrichment of young people in general, as well as for the UNDP work environment itself. In line with the Agenda 2030 and its pledge of “leaving no one behind”, this internship program aims to provide training and an immersive professional experience for underrepresented people in the United Nation system, such as young women, people with disabilities, people from underprivileged backgrounds, such as low-income families, LGBTI people, people living with HIV, among other groups.

  Duties and Responsibilities
Ensures efficient programme and administrative assistant support, focusing on achievement of the following results:
Provide accounting, finance and administrative support. Full Compliance of financial processes and financial records with UN/UNDP rules regulations, policies and strategies. Assistance in proper control of the supporting documents for payments and financial reports for NEX projects; payments and execution. Processing of financial documentation (vouchers, supporting documents, telephone invoices, etc.) and maintaining internal expenditures control system by ensuring that vouchers processed are matched and completed, transactions are correctly recorded and posted in quantum; travel claims, monthly payment orders (MPOs) and other entitlements are duly processed. Provision of information for reports on financial status, procedures, exchange rates, costs and expenditures (incl. MIP) and potential funding problems. Follow-up with other United Nations agencies for information relating to payments. Preparation of routine correspondence, emails, memoranda and reports in accordance with the Country Office (CO) SOP. Extracting, inputting, copying and filing data from various sources. Maintenance of the proper filing system for financial records and moments. Participation in the training for the operations/projects staff on Finance. Support the implementation of the Programme Unit’s partnerships and resources mobilization strategies,and preparation of reports. Presentation of thoroughly researched information for formulation of country programme, preparation of project documents’ drafts, work plans, budgets, proposals on implementation arrangements Support Programme/project management with the preparation of audit of National Implementation Modality (NIM) projects, implementation of audit recommendations Synthesis of lessons learnt and best practices in operations and financial administration for national and
regional projects.  Competencies

Education:
Enrolled student of a degree programme or completed 4 years of full-time studies at a university in the field of Social Sciences  Field of Studies: Accounting, Finance, Business or Economics and other related disciplines Experience: Knowledge and a proficient user of Microsoft Office productivity tools.

Eligibility for internships in UNDP

Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
(a)  Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher);
(b)  Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent);
(c)  Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation;
(d)  Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program.
