Work LocationManama Expected duration6 Months Duties and ResponsibilitiesBackground: The United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) in Bahrain provides strategic coordination and support to the United Nations Country Team (UNCT), ensuring the effective implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2025-2029. The RCO’s mandate focuses on strategic planning, partnerships, data analysis, communications, and results monitoring. This internship provides a unique opportunity for a highly motivated individual to gain hands-on experience in international development, UN system coordination, and strategic policy implementation. The intern will actively contribute to the UNSDCF implementation workstream, supporting multi-sectoral collaboration and sustainable development initiatives in Bahrain Duties and Responsibilities: Under the direct supervision of the Head of RCO and Strategic Planner, and in coordination with other RCO team members, the intern will: a. UNSDCF Implementation Support • Assist in tracking the progress of UNSDCF implementation, including reviewing reports, data collection, and preparing analytical summaries. • Support coordination efforts among UN agencies, government entities, and key stakeholders. • Contribute to research and drafting of policy briefs, reports, and presentations on key thematic areas of the UNSDCF. b. Stakeholder Engagement & Partnerships • Support the organization of multi-stakeholder dialogues, workshops, and inter-agency meetings related to UNSDCF implementation. • Assist in preparing background materials and talking points for senior UN officials in their engagement with government and development partners. • Contribute to mapping potential partnerships with private sector entities, academia, and civil society organizations. c. Data Analysis & Knowledge Management • Assist in compiling, analyzing, and visualizing development data and indicators relevant to the UNSDCF. • Contribute to knowledge-sharing efforts, including documenting best practices and lessons learned. • Support the maintenance and updating of key RCO databases and digital platforms. d. Communications & Reporting • Assist in drafting meeting minutes, event reports, and briefing documents. • Support content development for RCO newsletters, social media, and website updates related to UNSDCF activities. • Contribute to the preparation of annual and mid-term progress reports. Qualifications/special skillsTo qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: 1. Applicants must: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above); 2. Applicants must: (a) be computer literate in standard software applications. (b) have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter; and (c) have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Strong analytical and research skills with an ability to synthesize information from multiple sources is desirable. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural team.Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); knowledge of data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau) or graphic design (Canva, Adobe Suite) is desirable. Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment is desirable. Experience in Middle East Context is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English is required and knowledge of Arabic is desirable. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
