The advertised position is located in the UNDSS Global Security Information Centre (GSIC), Division of Field Operations (DFO). The incumbent will be part of the team mandated to provide UNDSS leadership with a 24/7 common situational awareness overview to support coordination and operational planning and facilitate crisis management. The incumbent reports to the Chief of the GSIC through the Senior Operations Assistant. Responsibilities• Serves on shift in the UNDSS Global Security Information Centre (GSIC), a 24/7 operation, receiving, evaluating and disseminating information and reports received from the field. Alerts appropriate Regional Desks to threat and security developments for the United Nations worldwide. • Provides and ensures communications with UN field security officers on a continuous basis and liaises between those elements and the Regional Desk officers at Headquarters. • Provides substantive staff support to document Regional Desk responses to normal as well as emergency security crisis response, including hostage and other security incident management operations in support of the Crisis Operations Group (COG). • Develops and maintains a worldwide security center database to support regional UN security operations. • Provides input to DFO in the preparation of both periodic as well as directed reports, estimates and appreciations. • Assist the Regional Operations Manager special projects and programmes as directed; • Perform other assignments as required. Work ExperienceA minimum of seven (7) years work experience in an administrative, communications, security or related function is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to five (5) years for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Experience drafting political, operational or security documents and briefings is required. Work experience in a role that directly supports the United Nations, or another similar large international organization's Security Management System is desirable. Experience working in a Situation Center, Joint Operations Center, or a similar 24/7 operational environment is desirable.
