Result of ServiceReport on the state of knowledge of noise impacts and noise mitigation measures for CMS-listed freshwater mammal species, and assessment of the need for specific guidance for those species and freshwater habitats, for consideration by the Scientific Council. Work Locationremote Expected duration6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe CMS Secretariat is seeking a consultant to compile and analyse available information relevant for all CMS-listed freshwater mammal species (cetaceans, sirenians, otters) and prepare a concise report with appropriate references and recommendations, as requested in CMS Decision 14.45 c). Under this assignment, the consultant will, by 31 May 2025, based on desktop research, develop a report covering: 1) The state of knowledge of noise impacts on CMS-listed freshwater mammal species, incl. their prey 2) The state of knowledge of noise mitigation measures taking into account the specific requirements and properties in habitats such as estuaries, rivers and lakes 3) An assessment whether existing guidance on noise mitigation sufficiently covers the needs of CMS-listed freshwater mammal species and their prey 4) A recommendation whether specific noise mitigation guidance for freshwater habitats is required Following review of the report by the JNWG by 15 July 2025, prepare a revised report for submission to the Secretariat by 15 August 2025. Qualifications/special skillsDegree in environmental sciences, underwater acoustics, or in another field relevant to the task is required In-depth knowledge of noise impacts and noise mitigation measures, understanding of the specifics of freshwater species and habitats, incl. sound propagation in freshwater and mitigation options in habitats such as estuaries, rivers and lakes LanguagesFluency in English and excellent writing skills are required Additional InformationNot available.
